Headline
Editor ~ Experienced, professional, and reliable.
Biography
100+ Books edited. 90+ Books formatted. I've been freelancing with The Urban Writers since April 2023. Many happy customers have left complementary reviews.
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
In my early life, I qualified as a teacher and taught in preparatory schools for years, leading various teacher groups. Since leaving the education field, I have applied my analytical skills and passion for the written word to editing, with my focus being on the review and quality control of documentation in various fields. Freelancing as an editor, I am currently doing what I love. A privilege that I appreciate!
Interests and hobbies
I am passionate about historical and archaeological knowledge.
I love reading, of course.
I read everything I see—every newspaper headline on the streetlight poles, every pamphlet that arrives as junk-mail, always scanning my environment for words.
When I am not sitting in front of a screen, I wander the woods or photograph ancient monuments. Interests include: photography, history, nature, gardening, psychology, education, music, health and fitness, DIY, and travel.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I am quiet, calm and curious. I value honesty and communication.
I am reliable, friendly and professional.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
I am organized, efficient, and professional. I have a flexible schedule.
When I start a new order, I first familiarize myself with the history of the order, then get a feel for the writer's voice and message. Then, I begin editing. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are checked. Comments are inserted for anything that needs to be rephrased, expanded on, or removed. I will communicate regularly with the writer and/or customer throughout the process. I enjoy the formatting of text as much as I enjoy editing the content.
Why should you choose me for your project
I understand the importance of the book for you and I am committed to maintaining the highest quality of the end product. I am a professional who is easy to work with. I make sure there is regular and clear communication. We have a symbiotic relationship. You gain an experienced and knowledgeable editor. I consider each order as an opportunity to gain knowledge and as I work through the topic, I grow as an individual.

Working with Blake Draken as the formatter for The Everyday Science Teacher was an exceptional experience from start to finish. This project explored new territory in both scope and complexity, and Blake approached every challenge with professionalism, creativity, and unwavering persistence. The manuscript was large, detailed, and demanding—filled with tables, visuals, lesson structures, and formatting requirements that pushed well beyond a typical book layout. When we encountered difficult obstacles and technical hurdles, Blake didn’t shy away. Instead, she problem-solved relentlessly, adapted quickly, and found solutions that kept the project moving forward when it easily could have stalled. What truly sets Blake apart is her commitment to seeing the project through to the publish stage. She treated the book not as a task to complete, but as a shared mission. Her attention to detail, patience, and willingness to refine, revise, and improve made an enormous difference in the final product. Thanks to Blake’s expertise and dedication, this book crossed the finish line polished, professional, and publication-ready. Her contribution was not just technical—it was foundational. I am deeply grateful for her role in bringing this book to life and would highly recommend Blake Drakken to any author tackling a complex or ambitious publishing project.
