Biography

South African Illustrator based in the UK. I love all kinds of illustration but specialise mainly in children's book illustration!

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I received my BA degree in 2022 for Visual Communication where I specialised in Illustration at Leeds Arts University. Since graduating I have been working freelance and have illustrated three children's books two of which have been published in the UK and South Africa.
I also have my certification in digital marketing. I received this whilst interning for a media company in Dublin where I worked as an in-house graphic designer. I was responsible for creating and maintaining the social media for multiple companies including Blooms Festival, Charted Accountants Worldwide and more.
I have also worked for other freelance clients such as musicians where I have illustrated album covers, created social media assets for various artists. I have illustrated newspaper illustrations, community posters and a few more.
I also paint quite a lot and have completed a couple of murals throughout my artistic career which is a big passion of mine which I hope to pursue further.

Interests and hobbies

I'm very interested in arts and crafts, specifically clay! I love to make clay jewellery out of polymer clay and have probably made over 100 earring sets.
I also like to stay active. Yoga, hiking and swimming are my favourite sports. I do weekly yoga session and focus mainly on mindfulness and the meditative side of it. On the weekends I'm often up for a hike when the weather allows it (England is not the best for hiking weather..) but when I can I'm always up for it!
My final hobbie is movies, I'm always up to date on the newest films and you can find me at the local cinema a lot!

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

In a nutshell, I'm very easy going and always smiling. I am reliable but always ready for a challenge and adventure.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I work mainly digitally, sometimes I will plan my composition with a pencil on paper but majority of my work is digital unless I am painting.
My first approach will be to create a mood board for my illustration, once I've done that I just start sketching until I've reached the perfect composition. Next ill look and source out a colour palette and try multiple colour compositions until I find the right colour combo. From there I'll just draw and towards the end if working with a client we will discuss the illustration and the revisions that need to be taken (if there are any.)

Why should you choose me for your project

I am a very reliable illustrator, depending on the complexity of an illustration I can finish a piece of work in 1.5 hours. More complex work would take longer.
I've already worked with a couple clients and have been able to adapt to the kinds of style they wanted so I have flexibility in my work. I have experience in drawing lots of people and animals so if that's what you're looking for I would be your candidate! I do not however do environment illustrations too much, I like to rather focus on subjects.
