My editing skills have been honed both in and outside the college classroom. I have an M.A. from Salisbury University, MD and a PhD in English (British Literature & Rhetoric and Composition) from the UNC at Greensboro. I am an intellectually curious person, who cultivates that curiosity through reading across genres, cultures, and historical periods. For more than 12 years, I've been teaching critical reading, rhetoric, composition, and surveys of world literature. As an English instructor, I've guided students through all the stages of the writing process, from prewriting to proofreading. As an author, I've worked on manuscript preparation to ensure that my dissertation, book chapters, and scholarly articles are publication-ready; as a peer reviewer, I've followed rigorous criteria for recommending publication; as the editor of an essay collection, I worked with the contributors within a specific time-frame, provided valuable input on their essays, and followed house-style guidelines for editing and formatting the volume. As a freelancer, I'm excited to build on this academic background and bring my expertise to writing projects that fall under various niches.

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
My editing skills have been honed both in and outside the college classroom. Interests and hobbies
As well as traveling (not only through books) and making memories with family and friends, I love the 80s music, foreign movies (that are not dubbed), and the breathtaking beauty of nature, particularly in the spring and fall.

I am an intellectually curious person who cultivates that curiosity through reading across genres, cultures, and historical periods. This analytical side of my personality is balanced by an imaginative drive that I channel in creative ways, through writing and painting.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
My approach to editing is similar to my teaching philosophy, in that they're both about engagement: keeping the audience (students/readers) engaged through content that goes hand in hand with form(at). Just as a teacher hopes to reach as many students as possible through how they present the course material, an editor makes sure that a writer’s ideas are expressed clearly and effectively so that they can resonate with as many readers as possible. Hence what I call the 4Cs of good writing—clarity, coherence, conciseness, and consistency—which inform my editorial process.
