Biography

J M Laz is a Harvard-educated writer and editor with scripted storytelling experience from Hollywood true crime to Marvel comic books.

As editor, he's overseen the publication of non-fiction and fiction titles ranging from self-help and guidebooks to romance, crime, and fantasy.

As a drama writer, JM was most recently staffed on a new true crime series about a small-town sting operation. Prior to that, JM wrote for Fox’s THE GIFTED (20th/Marvel), an ensemble drama adapted from the X-Men.

Whether JM is editing books or writing about a stranger-than-fiction criminal investigation or comic-book mutants, he loves telling stories and helping other people tell theirs. He is a team player and loves to solve creative problems on the page or in collaboration.

JM began working in TV writers’ rooms as an assistant and script coordinator and has honed his “story math” skills working on six different series (10 total seasons), as well as six produced pilots and an HBO film.

JM also works and volunteers as an educator and therapist. He currently tutors English Language Arts and writing in public schools in Los Angeles, actively works as a behavioral therapist specializing in children with autism, and serves as a mentor to high school students applying to college.

Originally from New York, JM studied English, Dramatic Arts, and Spanish at Harvard. He lives in Los Angeles with his dog, Agnes.
