Biography
My name is Alison Evans. Besides editing, I have 13+ years of experience working as a writing tutor and English teacher.
I'm passionate about the earth, animals, and human rights. I also enjoy good storytelling and working with citations.
The best way to showcase the essence of me is through a poem about where I'm from:
I'm from Swedish roots and Midwest plains
From lakeside summers and burnt marshmallows
From hotdish and savory pea soup
I'm from Russian tea and ginger cookies with Grandma
From hiding up in a willow tree bent over a murky pond
From separate homes and mixed families
I'm from holding grudges and loving fiercely
From, "You know in your heart what's right"
From lullabies to my children about reflections and mermaids
I'm from understanding the power words wield
And carefully choosing when to wield them
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
Besides a couple years of editing, I have related experience throughout my eleven years as an English teacher and few years as a writing tutor.
I have my BA degree and a master's degree.
Interests and hobbies
I enjoy pontooning, writing, and table tennis.
I also host a bimonthly book club.
I'm a huge geek and child at heart. (I still play dozens of old Nancy Drew PC games.)
Regarding music, I'm a proud Swiftie, but I also enjoy 90s pop and 80s rock.
Lastly, one of my favorite pastimes is searching for new playgrounds with my children each summer.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I'd describe my personality as empathetic and reflective. I'm always trying to see things from other people's points of view, and I'm often reflecting on how I can be better in all aspects in life.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
My goal as an editor is to polish a piece without taking away from a writer's voice. I yearn to make writers and audiences happy, so I perform with all I have to help create clear, quality pieces with great attention to detail.
