Senior Editor | 25+ years of non-fiction editing experience, including at HarperCollins | 2 x "Freelancer of the Month"

Biography

I'm a skilled copy editor and proofreader with over 20 years of experience, encompassing non-fiction book publishing, academic journals, clinical guidelines, website content, and communications campaigns. My subject-level expertise includes health and fitness; self-help and personal development; religion and spirituality; parenting; healthy eating and cookery; finance; technology; sports; medical; and humor.

I gained this experience both within traditional publishing houses (HarperCollins Publishers, Bloomsbury Publishing) and at a number of charities and not-for-profits, including the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (a global voice for women's healthcare) and Parent Zone (a social enterprise working with partners such as Google, Facebook, and government bodies to promote children's online safety).

My academic background is in modern languages (French and Italian). My experience of translation into English means I am adept at understanding a writer's intended meaning and ensuring that meaning is expressed as clearly and precisely as possible.

Outside of work, my young daughter keeps me busy! When I do get time to myself I enjoy reading (including running a book club), calligraphy, cooking, baking, and, when time allows, going to the theater.

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I have 25+ years of experience in editing and proofreading across a wide range of non-fiction genres (health and fitness; self-help and personal development; religion and spirituality; parenting; healthy eating and cookery; finance; technology; sports; medical). My past employers include HarperCollins Publishers and Bloomsbury Publishing, and I continue to freelance for Bloomsbury. I also have expertise in academic medical publishing (books and journal articles), so am very confident editing content about the science behind our health and well-being.

Outside of publishing, I have experience of working in women's health at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and in parenting from my time at Parent Zone, a social enterprise supporting children's online safety via partnerships with the likes of Google, Facebook, and government bodies.

As a Senior Editor, I was also involved in the testing phase for the new AI content tool that has now been launched by Dibbly, so have specific experience in editing AI-generated text to ensure it sounds "human".

Interests and hobbies

Reading, cooking, baking, traveling, calligraphy, theater, spending time with my 7-year-old daughter

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I'm hard-working and focused and have great attention to detail. At the same time, I'm approachable and positive and think every working relationship benefits from a smile.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I'm passionate about helping writers polish their text to make it shine, and believe a good working relationship between a writer and an editor is the key to editing success.

Why should you choose me for your project

Working with Clara was an excellent experience. She is highly professional, extremely detail-oriented, and consistently went beyond my expectations. Clara has a sharp editorial eye and was able to spot issues that truly mattered—areas that, once refined, led to significant improvements in clarity, flow, and overall quality of the manuscript. What impressed me most was her ability to strengthen the work without losing its voice or intent. Her suggestions were thoughtful, precise, and clearly aimed at elevating the final result rather than simply correcting surface-level issues. The manuscript is noticeably stronger because of her involvement. Clara is a true professional, a pleasure to work with, and someone I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an editor who brings both expertise and genuine care to a project.
