Experienced editor/formatter providing an easy, collaborative, and efficient process
Biography
My name is Gracie and I'm an editor and formatter at The Urban Writers! I have a diverse editing background in many genres and have fulfilled over 170 projects with rave reviews. I pride myself on providing an efficient, collaborative process that results in a final product you can be proud of! Outside of TUW, I am a professional actor/musician/dancer, certified personal trainer, and educator. I also love crocheting, cooking, and spending time with my pets!
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
I have extensive experience editing for a wide range of topics, styles, and genres including the performing arts (theatre, music, dance), psychology and other social sciences, fiction (short stories, poems, lyrics, etc.), and more! I have wide experience editing from all aspects of the writing journey, from final proofreading to complete restructuring and revising. I have edited all types of material including website pages, marketing materials, educational materials and papers, administrative forms, and more.
Interests and hobbies
As someone who likes to dabble in a little bit of everything, my interests include psychology, history, gaming, fantasy, arts and crafts, programming, theatre, dance, and music. My main hobbies include singing, playing the piano/guitar, crocheting, reading, and eating desserts.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I am a very detail-oriented person who will nitpick and fine-tune a product until it can be the best it can be. I strive to create a positive, communicative bond between editor and client that is open, honest, and supportive.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
I approach every piece with a collaborative attitude and an ability to tailor my edits toward the client's overall vision for the piece. I aim to produce high-quality work in an efficient, mindful manner.
Why should you choose me for your project
As an editor, my priority above all else is ensuring that YOU are happy with the end product! This means I will work with you and the writer to create a product that is not only clear, concise, and error-free, but most importantly, feels like you. I will work with you tirelessly to create a product that you are proud of.

A customer · 5.0 · August 2026
Working with Gracie was an excellent experience. She approached my manuscript with great care, professionalism, and genuine creativity. Her edits went far beyond simply correcting the text—she paid close attention to rhythm, rhyme, flow, age-appropriate language, and how naturally the story would read aloud. What I appreciated most was how thoughtful and collaborative she was throughout the process. Gracie explained the reasoning behind her suggestions, listened carefully to my concerns, and when I wanted to preserve a particular meaning, she was willing to look for alternative wording rather than simply insisting on her original edit. Several of her suggestions helped me see the text from a new perspective and ultimately made the manuscript stronger. It was clear that she took the project seriously and genuinely cared about finding the best solution for the book. Communication was easy, respectful, and constructive from beginning to end. I’m extremely happy with the final result and would absolutely recommend Gracie to authors looking for a skilled, attentive, and creative editor. I would be very happy to work with her again.

A customer · 2.8 · July 2024
I need to take some responsibility for Gracie's confusion during my project. I didn't know I needed a Children's Formatter. However, according to admin she should've told me this from the beginning. Instead, I worked for hours trying to communicate my needs, which were not complicated., and not done. I wanted an illustration on the right pages and text on the left. I see that she has a lot of excellent reviews, so please take this with a grain of salt. I guess if you're looking for a children's book formatter, don't go to anyone that doesn't have the software - ask first. This was a very frustrating and time-consuming experience that should have been prevented from the start.
A customer · 5.0 · July 2024

Always a joy to work with!
A customer · 5.0 · June 2024
Gracie is so easy to work with. After she did the first format with the dimensions I gave her, me being someone who is a first-timer and doesn't know any better, she thought it looked too small to be easy to read, so she suggested making the book size larger and she was so right! I would have been disappointed with the paperback if she hadn't suggested a better option - and she reformatted it all over again! Gracie is someone you can trust with your best interests in mind!
