Biography

Hey there! I'm Rylynn, but I also go by Cherry. In case you were wondering about the mysterious "C" in my name, keep wondering because it sure isn't Cherry. When someone asks me to introduce myself, I tell them (politely, of course) that I'm probably not the best person to do it. Anybody else can describe me better, even the cashier at my favorite grocery store. But the best candidates for this would be the seven cats and two German Shepherds who claim to have ownership of me.

Joking aside, I grew up in a small town, and I've been forever in love with the outdoors. Whenever I manage to sneak some time off from my workspace, I go for a hiking trip or explore haunted abandoned buildings with my dogs. I'm also a fitness fanatic of sorts who loves to perform challenging activities. Yes, from the outside, I might look like a tough cookie, but on the inside, I'm a softie who likes to create imaginary interactions between fictional characters because it's so much fun!

Well, that's all the interesting stuff about me. Now it's time for the professional details, which, according to my cats, aren't as important. When I work, I don't seem to be paying undivided attention to them, so I guess they have a point. I graduated with a degree in English, and as if that wasn't enough, I did my masters in the same subject with a minor in history. But at this time, I also completed a psychology course. My early career was in English teaching, and I've taught students from different backgrounds for more than seven years. Then I shifted my attention to writing and editing. My certification in editing and proofreading is from Proofreading Academy.

I used to edit for an educational startup until I decided I wanted some variety. Now I freelance for clients from across the board, and every time I add finishing touches to a manuscript, I feel happy that I can help someone inch closer to their publishing goals. Some books I edited have done incredibly well, and I'm super proud of that. But what makes me happiest is a client who thinks I've worked some magic into their books!

Other facts about me: I'm an indie author, and I publish romance and suspense books. To indulge my obsession with romance (you should know by now that I'm a total romance girlie), I started a book review blog dedicated to romance reads. But on the flip side, I'm working on a true crime and mysteries podcast. And oh, I'm planning to rescue more fur babies!

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I have a Master's degree in English Literature and Language. Initially, I worked as a teacher, but later moved on to writing and editing. After completing a course in editing and proofreading, I've devoted most of my time to perfecting manuscripts and helping authors realize their publishing dreams. I've worked on a variety of books, both fiction and nonfiction. Here's a brief overview of the type of projects I take on and would be interested in:

Fiction:

Romance (contemporary, paranormal, historical, fantasy, anything under the sun): Romance is my main meal, you can say. I have worked on trope-oriented novels, but I also take on unique projects. Some of the tropes I edit include billionaire, small town, enemies-to-lovers, mafia, Bratva, brother's best friend, sports, friends-to-lovers, age gap, and slow-burn.

Thriller/Mystery (cozy mystery, spy thrillers, political thrillers, general mysteries): Big Agatha Christie fan here! I'm always sniffing around for mysteries, so I love working on projects in this niche.

Horror (psychological, supernatural): I edit all types of horror books because it's a genre I love to read. I regularly binge horror audio stories and recently had the opportunity to work with a horror channel on YouTube. If I get to edit a horror book, I'm always thrilled!

Children's books (all kinds): I have edited fun stories, and I also write short stories to entertain the kids in my family!

Nonfiction:

History (war history, ancient history, medieval stories, inspiring women in history, battle analysis): Yes, I'm a history buff, and I take on projects in this niche whenever I can. I'm happy to do research to fact-check details in a project.

General Self-Help: I've written and edited self-help content for over ten years. My experience includes working with successful individuals and brands, helping them tell their stories through inspirational narratives. I've also edited travel guides, health and fitness books, and biographies.

Teen Self-Help (study guides, body image, social interactions, happiness, navigating teen life): I have a relatable style that helps me edit teen books.

True Crime (unsolved mysteries, serial killers, paranormal mysteries, court cases): Being a true-crime junkie, I like editing books on any topic in this niche. I also write content for my true crime podcast.

Interests and hobbies

I'm big on puzzles! I love solving all kinds of word scrambles, crosswords, number puzzles, and well, anything that challenges my little, gray cells (in the words of Hercule Poirot). Maybe this is why I got into editing because I love finding out what's missing in a manuscript or things that need some tweaking. Obviously, like most others in my field, I have my head buried in books for the most part of the day. I read for work and for fun! My favorite genres are romance (yeah, you must have guessed it), mystery/thriller, history, comedy, and horror (yes, I know it's such a mixed bag!).

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I like to think I'm a fun person to be around. I like cracking jokes and sometimes laugh too hard at them, only to realize they weren't actually that hilarious! My goal is to make people smile because why not? Wait, that's more than two sentences already! Got to learn how to self-edit, I guess.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I take the client requirements very seriously because I'm editing their work after all. Before starting any project, I ask about the client's goals, tone and voice of the book, intended audience, and general necessities. I believe this improves the workflow and helps me out later because I don't have to constantly worry about making changes that might not be in line with the ultimate goals.

I'm going to do more than just add missing punctuation and correct a spelling error; I'll make sure your voice is preserved, and you get the same final product you envisaged when you began this journey! I'm a book consultant, and I offer general advice to authors who have just started their publishing careers.
