Biography
Hey, I am Michael LaChapelle and I understand that the art of book cover design is all about making a lasting impression. I am a Designer, Art Director, and Marketer with 10+ years experience designing book covers. I have been fortunate enough to work with some incredible and famous authors, and have had the pleasure of working on fantasy, mystery, and great novels. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Art Directing, Design, and Visual Brand Communication, and a Diploma in Marketing Communications. That comes in handy to generate sales with your cover. I have been with TUW from the very start when we were only 6 designers, and I would love to work with you.
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
I studied at the AAA School of Advertising, the second-best design school worldwide, and obtained two Diplomas and a Specialized Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative Brand Communication (NQF7). After my studies, I gained experience through working at Advertising Agencies and Struik Christian Media (SCM), a well-positioned publishing house. At SCM, I worked on projects for well-known publishing houses such as Penguin Random House, Hachette, HarperCollins, Thomas Nelson, Faithwords, Zondervan, Bethany House, and others. I was also responsible for the design and production of books for renowned authors including Joyce Meyer, Joseph Prince, T.D Jakes, John C. Maxwell, Joel Osteen, Karen Kingsbury, Sarah Young, Louie Giglio, and many others.
Interests and hobbies
Living in the Harbour of St. Tropez, I have the luxury of being surrounded by water in every direction. I enjoy participating in or simply watching activities and water sports happening all day long, like canoeing and swimming. From my balcony, I can observe the many boats passing by, and I'm proud to have a skipper's license, allowing me to take friends and family out on the water. As a food and wine enthusiast, I am also fond of exploring the local restaurants with friends and tasting the delicious food and excellent wine.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I'm passionate about my work and always strive to do my best. I'm always looking for ways to improve my skills and learn something new. I'm a team player and take initiative to ensure things get done. I'm also an effective communicator and enjoy working with colleagues to achieve a common goal. I'm a creative individual, who loves to think outside the box to find solutions to problems, and I'm not afraid to take risks. I'm a lifelong learner and take pride in my accomplishments.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
I use my knowledge of visual communication to create designs that are both effective and visually appealing. I'm passionate about creating designs that are both meaningful and aesthetically pleasing, and I'm always looking for ways to challenge myself and develop my skills further.
I use my design skills to create visuals that not only look great but also have purpose and meaning. My aim is to create visuals that convey the message behind the project in the most effective and engaging way possible. As a visual communication designer, I strive to create visuals that are unique and memorable, while also achieving the desired outcome.
Why should you choose me for your project
At TUW, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best designers in the industry and learn the tricks of the trade. My professional experience includes Graphic Design, Art Direction, and Marketing within a publishing house environment. I have created numerous successful covers for books, some of which have even made it to the Top 10 of Amazon's best sellers in its genre. I understand that in order to produce a great cover, it is important to have great communication, a great brief, and a great team. That being said, I also have experience in working with some rather challenging briefs and have been able to come up with successful solutions.
As a designer, I am constantly looking for ways to improve the process and stay on top of the latest trends. To stay up to date, I attend design workshops and seminars. Above all, I am passionate about design and strive to create the best products for my clients.

A customer · 2.8 · October 2024
Michael did a good job on the cover but he was not so prompt to respond to questions and then left my hanging for an entire week, so that I had to get the support team involved. I am presuming that Michael had an issue and hence this prevented him from completing the job, but it would have been helpful to at least receive a message of explanation.
