Biography

I'm a reliable, diligent and resourceful freelance editor experienced in proofreading and line, copy, and developmental editing, with a broad suite of skills gained whilst attending university and during work. I have experience working on a multitude of fiction and non-fiction document types. As an editor, I have been responsible for overseeing the development of: articles, dissertations, essays, how-to guides, and novels.

A second set of eyes provides you with a fresh perspective, which is essential to a good edit. My goal is to ensure that your document is captivating and error-free, whether it be a fantasy novel or scientific journal.

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

With five years of experience as a professional editor, I've tackled text of all sorts.

As a freelance editor, I perform copy, line, and developmental edits on both fictional and non-fictional long-form content, all while managing clients and delivering results on schedule. I continually review content against brief requirements and client instructions, ensuring clear communication with clients via email, Slack, and WhatsApp. Above all else, I'm sure not to impede authorial intent.

I also have experience producing and publishing essential business documents. I've created digestible business process guides to inform employees about the use of bespoke internal software, created and distributed company newsletters and adverts, and written client proposals, risk assessments, and security plans essential for securing contracts.

Finally, I've experience working with academic material. As a writing feedback specialist, I provided asynchronous editing on written documents from students and young professionals. I also have a BA with First-Class Honours from Bristol University.

Interests and hobbies

I'm deeply passionate about both film and literature, hence my love for editing. While I'm not one to ever have a definitive 'favorite' anything, some books I've recently enjoyed include 'Piranesi' (so beautiful and gently moving), 'House of Leaves' (not for everyone, but I love the academic satire), 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' (so warm and evocative), and 'We Have Always Lived in the Castle' (my go-to October book). Aside from literature, I like reading graphic novels: 'My Favorite Thing is Monsters,' 'Black Hole,' and 'From Hell' are all gorgeous.

As for film, I adore anything quiet and introspective, melancholic, and beautifully composed. Think 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire,' 'Aftersun,' and 'Chungking Express.' I also love horror films; 'The Thing' and 'Alien' are all-time classics, as is 'Susperia,' and 'Possession' and 'Cure' are incredible.

I also enjoy more general reading, and spent a lot of my time perusing articles online and going down Wikipedia rabbit holes. Elsewise, I play video games (Cyberpunk 2077, Hotline Miami, Inscryption, etc.) and frequently go on runs around the harborside where I live. And nothing beats a pint with friends on a lovely summer's day!

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I'm a fairly relaxed person who likes to chill at home with my partner, cat, and a good book or film. I'm deeply passionate about that which interests me, namely the arts (particularly film & literature) and the Earth and all her beauty.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I strive to implement consistent editorial standards across all of my projects to ensure total accuracy, clarity, and alignment with style guides and client specifications. I've established a structured process for intake, review, editing, and delivery to maintain reliability and efficiency across multiple concurrent projects. When starting work on a project, I first identify and eliminate risk factors such as factual inaccuracies, copyright or confidentiality breaches, and inappropriate content, whilst ensuring that all edits comply with ethical and legal expectations. I also maintain an organised record of drafts, changes, and any editorial decisions to ensure transparency and traceability throughout the editing process.

Why should you choose me for your project

Well, for one, I love editing! An author's writing is an insight into themselves, and being able to help share that with the world is a great privilege. To be an excellent editor, I think you have to love reading, and thankfully, I do. Being able to read work while it is crystallising into something ready for publishing is super interesting, so I'd be honoured to help you finalise your project, whether it's borne of pure passion or a part of a practical paper.

I'm straightforward and punctual, and will polish your work without ever impeding your authorial intent. So if I sound right for your project, send me a message!
