Biography

Hello, and welcome to my profile! I have over a decade of experience in editing and writing pedagogy. As an editor, I can tell you what works, why it works, and what will bring you success in your chosen niche.

Do you want researched nonfiction? I began in academia, so I can show you how to produce original analyses that fits in the current discourse.

Do you want an engaging piece of fiction? Everyone needs a bit of escapism every now and again.

Do you want to make sure that your work is as original as it can be? When I check for plagiarism, I don't stop where the plagiarism scanner does! I can identify forms of plagiarism that even our most sophisticated scanners find difficult to catch.

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I began as an academic editor and writing consultant at Transylvania University Lexington, KY. Here, I attained my BA in Writing, Rhetoric, and Communication with a Minor in Music.
In August of 2017, I became academic editor and writing consultant at American University in Washington, D.C. where I received my MA in Literature.
I have become a freelance editor and educator and have worked with The Urban Writers August of 2020. In addition to my work with The Urban Writers, I do literacy work with children K-3 and multilingual adults.
As of now, I am working on getting additional certification through Poynter as I believe that an editor and educator's education should never end.

Interests and hobbies

I love mysteries and science fiction media, but I am also fascinated by the Iliad and its adaptations.
I grew up loving the theater, particularly musical theater and opera. Two of my favorite productions have been of The Winter's Tale and The Misanthrope.
Something that helps me relax and de-stress is puzzle-solving, particularly language-based riddles.

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I see myself, primarily, as creative and solution-oriented. I understand that stressors and obstacles are inevitable, and I operate in conversation with them, managing them rather than allow them to overwhelm my experiences.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I work to the given style guide of every given work that I have, but I understand that the rules that the style guides set forth are not always appropriate to every work. As an editor, I work alongside the style guides, using lessons I've gleaned from my education and from my fellow rhetors to help those I'm working with to fulfill the purpose(s) they've set for themselves.

Why should you choose me for your project

My experiences as an educator feeds into my approach as an editor. I am aware that one of the most difficult parts of editing is giving the feedback and explaining why certain choices are effective, and I invite the question of "why" and thoroughly encourage it. I also keep up to date with the expectations of literary agents, learning more about what they look for in any specific genre. I prioritize originality and accuracy and use highly sophisticated researching methods that I am always looking to perfect.
