Biography

Hi there!

I want to tell you a little bit about myself and a maybe, who knows, we end up working on a fantastic project together!
My pen name is “Niña Mestiza” and it can be translated into “Mixed race child”. I chose the word “child” to honor the younger version of me, the one that showed me my passion for drawing. And I chose the word “mestiza” after reading Gloria Anzaldúa’s book “Borderlands/La Frontera: the new mestiza”. Through the pages of this book Gloria gives a new meaning to the geographic concept of borderland. She turns this historical concept of separation into a space of resistance. For me to read this book was mind-blowing and marked one of the first times that I questioned my political position in life.
A lot of my political, spiritual and cultural background is represented through my illustrations. However, I am here to open myself to new challenges and express what others have to say as well.
When it comes to illustration and creativity I commit a 100%. From my perspective this is not just a job to do, but a way to live.
I live constantly developing new ideas, writing my thoughts for new illustrations and paintings. I would love to share this energy in your project too.

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I have an undergraduate degree in education as a teacher of English. I worked in schools for three years, while dedicating my free time to illustration and tattoo art.
I am passionate about art and expressing emotions and conveying messages through illustration. I am sure I can become a great asset to your project if you give me the chance to do it!

Interests and hobbies

I love everything related to fantasy, movies, books, mangas, etc.
I enjoy spending my days drawing, reading and around nature. This last one is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to find a new motif to draw or illustrate.

My personality is passionate and kind. I commit a 100% to everything I do.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

Open to communication! This is the key to the success of any project. I will bring my expertise and knowledge about illustration, but I need your comments and help to understand the project I am working on.
I am very organized and I work with deadlines. I keep record of the things I do and I like to schedule weekly meetings to assess the progress of our work.
