My name is Lex and I'm a writer that has a fascination with many topics including survival, homesteading, and gardening.
Biography
I have always enjoyed writing, be it for scientific purposes, for my own enjoyment, or the enjoyment of others. I started writing in high school, many, many moons ago, but only really started excelling at it when I got to university where I had few other creative outlets whilst studying. When not working on large projects I end up writing every day either in diaries to work on my penmanship or on my own personal fantasy writing pieces.
A day doesn’t go by without me either putting pen to paper or fingers to a keyboard. Whether I am working on a project or for my own enjoyment I feel that if you don’t practice your writing skills they will diminish over time. As a writer, you cannot neglect learning, and this reflects well in the types of things I like to read. Although I am a huge fan of fantasy, with David Gemmel being my hero, I am also the kind of person that needs to learn something new every day. Because of this, I like to broaden my horizons by choosing topics I don’t have much experience in to learn more about it and be able to present it in such a fashion that anyone else can learn from the information I write about.
My interests vary from animals, as you can see in my profile picture, to all sorts of sciences as well as some holistic practices. I am a published author not once but twice as I have one fantasy book to my name as well as my research for my Masters in Forensic Entomology.
My time at university has taught me that research is what makes a project, not the results. If you cannot present your findings in such a way that everyone can understand them then your results are for nothing. Though raised and trained as a scientist I am rather open-minded about many things and have worked on a range of holistic projects and I am not afraid to gather information from sources when I am able. I have experience in many diet books as well, especially when it comes to the keto diet as well as the carnivore diet.
However, all work and no play can make Lex rather boring. Or so it would seem! My skills are such that I am quite good at cracking jokes and coming up with terrible tongue twisters. Joke books are something I have tried my hand at quite successfully and they are a nice break from the serious research one has to do on some projects.
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
I have been a full-time writer since 2020 and have been loving every minute of it!
I'm a qualified Entomologist (study of insects) with a Masters to prove it.
I also majored in genetics and biochemistry as secondary subjects.
I also have a diploma in creative writing.
Interests and hobbies
My main interest is research. If I don't know something, I make an effort to research it until I am familiar with it. I enjoy reading, particularly the works of David Gemmell and Raymond E. Feist. While not working, I spend time writing my fiction books to share on forums and with friends.
I enjoy gardening, even though my garden is nothing but pots and planters. During summer, I enjoy testing various survival methods I have read about, as learning new survival skills is something I like to have under my belt.
During my downtime, I compete in tabletop games such as Bloodbowl, which I'm particularly partial to. I'm even getting into streaming horror games because of a challenge issued.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I'm a happy-go-lucky kind of person that's fiercely loyal to my friends and family. Despite my attitude, I'm also hard-working and separate work and downtime effectively.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
The way I like to handle my work is to have an overview of the whole project before I get started. I spend a few days before the start doing light research to see if there is something that needs addressing before starting the project. Once the project starts, I ask the necessary questions while getting the project structure in place. I enjoy having the client as part of my process instead of them just hanging in the background overviewing the work.
I welcome having the client give input on the flow and tone of the book, but I'm not afraid to discuss points that may need more work than previously discussed.
Research is my favorite part of any project, and I go beyond outlines looking for answers if I need them. I also don't mind speaking to experts in different fields of study; if I have access to them. I usually spend half my day writing and the other half researching. This way I'm able to get through more of the project than dedicating separate days to do both. I normally review my writing at the end of each week for inconsistencies and grammar to ensure by the time I get to the end of the project, the review process goes quickly.
Communication is key. I always make an effort to let my clients know when I reach certain goals, so they always know where their project is during my writing phase.

I'm not afraid to do research or ask questions about any topic given to me. I'm diligent in my work ethic and have never had a project late or rejected. I ensure that the quality of the final project is at its best before handing it over to the client or editor. I pride myself on my attention to detail and the quality of anything I work on, be that a project of a couple of hundred words, or books with thousands of words.

Lex had great follow up and consistent writing cadence which was wonderful. We had a very rough start with the writer's tone and adherence to the specific type of content that we were looking for in this book. We had to go through several weeks of "corrective phases" with reminders and rejections of what was acceptable content that aligned with the book requirements. We ended up writing the Introduction to get the book on track, which was a big help in reaffirming the tone and focus. We were able to get into a good collaboration in the final few weeks of the writing process.
