Biography

I am a nearly 30-year-old writer from South Africa. My first story was barely a hundred words, written when I was five years old about a girl saving a duck. I still have that notebook that it was written in, but I do have a few criticisms about grammar and structure.

My two dogs and my partner live with me, happily for the most part. I, myself, am not particularly interesting, however. My stories are.

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I have been writing professionally since 2013, and have been a full-time freelancer since early 2020. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics and Language Practice in 2014, and an Honor's Degree in Language Practice, particularly intersemiotic translation, in 2015.

My experience is varied, and I'd like to say that I'd be reliably able to write almost anything. From marketing email copywriting to werewolf romances to blog posts about octopuses, I've really done it all. I enjoy this variety since stagnation is one of my worst fears. I've also worked as a proofreader and an editor, for non-fiction, fiction, and academia alike.

Interests and hobbies

Sometimes I wish that I could say something interesting about this topic. Maybe that I enjoy skydiving on the weekends, or wrestle with giant starfish in the deep ocean. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I do find various things interesting, but I prefer to learn about them through internet rabbit holes.

I have traveled to two other continents aside from my own, but it's been a few years. As I near my thirties, my hobbies have mostly narrowed down to three things; my slight obsession with dogs, reading, and video games.

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I am both completely average and entirely strange. I am basically bi-everything; I hate fish, but love tuna, I don't want to go outside but I love hiking - that kind of thing.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I approach work with the mindset that each project is like a coloring book. The client gives me the picture. They tell me the basics of what they want, and how they want it. Then, I'm the one who adds the color. That's why I enjoy working on a variety of projects, whether they're challenging or not. Coloring the same picture over and over would drive anyone mad, but give me different pencils, different backgrounds, even a color-by-numbers now and again, and I'd be ecstatic.

Simultaneously, I have a strong code of ethics and it's crucial to me to hold to that. To make sure that I deliver quality on time. That I communicate well. That I make the client proud to put the colored-in picture on their fridge at the end of the day.

Since I've been writing for a while now, I take criticism in my stride. I'll work until the results put a smile on your face. I also love working on things that challenge my creativity. Essentially, I don't just think out of the box. I've thrown the whole box away.

Words cannot express the gratitude I have for Elizabeth and her incredible talents. My Bedtime Story book required a ghostwriter who could see the vision for it's heart. She did so much more than that and helped craft over 55 stories with a purpose of building love, creativity, family bonds, and so much more.
