Biography

“…I certainly hope to leave behind me the whole thing [LOTR] revised and in final form, for the world to throw into the waste-paper basket. All books come there in the end, in this world, anyway” - J.R.R. Tolkien, July 31 1947

There is nothing worse than a vain writer; being so caught up in the inflation of one’s own thoughts is a dangerous road that leads to pushing people away. The art of writing, the very core and nature, is meant to draw others in, to bring them on a journey of enlightenment, entertainment, and otherness. My goal in writing is to use words to make sense of whatever is at hand. That may take form in non-fiction or story. Whatever the format, I desire my ability as a writer to be useful to others, to satisfy the curiosity in myself, and to make the world at large a bit more clear.

I have been writing since I understood how to turn basic letters into words. I still find fragments of old stories in basement boxes that hold pieces of my childhood safely at my parents’ home. Thankfully, my craft has steadily improved since those fumbling firsts, but it is entertaining to hear the voice of my childhood self. Some of these get tucked back into their cardboard keepers; others meet Tolkein’s hopes of recycled words. Not every word is worth preserving, but each serves its purpose for a season.

There is so much joy to be found in using words to make things more accessible to others. Concepts become characters. Research becomes a written journey to betterment. Thoughts become bound in ink on paper, waiting to be discovered by the curious reader.

From sweeping fantasy novels to non-fiction works questioning deep spiritual truths, I have multiple books of my own thoughts. Learning to communicate the thoughts of others is the unique challenge of ghost-writing. I am thrilled to be part of TUW to offer my skills to others.
