Biography

My name is Barbara Marie. I am from Tanzania, but I am currently residing in South Africa. I am in university doing my third year in BCom Law. I love writing and reading books of every kind, I started reading at ten and never stopped, I felt like books were my only outlet and they helped me deal with all the turmoil of growing up and trying to figure out one’s place in the world. Books also allowed me to explore different perspectives of life and understand how different people in society think. I also love music and old films, especially psychological thrillers such as Shutter Island. I love writing fiction, biographies, memoirs, business, law, history, comedy, travel, entertainment, politics, and current affairs. I love reading thrillers, my favourite writer is Sidney Sheldon and my favourite book of his is “Master of the Game”, I also love John Grisham and have read almost every book he has written, my favourite is “The Runaway Jury”. I love the range of work I get to produce on this platform. I believe this is a stepping stone into eventually publishing my books in both fiction and non-fiction genres.

Minimalism

The term minimalism can easily intimidate anyone and plague you with thoughts like, ‘this is impossible to do, I have way too much stuff!’. The majority of society feels like this, we have closets and cabinets overflowing with things we don't need, clothes we’ve never worn, and toiletries we’ve never used, all this combined leaves us with the gnawing feeling that something is wrong. But minimalism has become the new rage, every social media platform in the world has people talking about minimalism and how it’s changed their lives by inspiring them to own less. Many of us are intrigued by th...

What is clutter?

Why do we keep things we don't want, need, or even use? What is inspiring us to keep these things in our lives when they are inherently useless to us? The most problematic outcome of overconsumption in our society is the amount of clutter that we leave in our paths. The landfills alone can attest to the amount of clutter we collectively own as human beings, it's killing us and the planet at a rapid pace, so before we can even attempt a more fulfilling livelihood when we must first remove the clutter that is holding us back. The first step in any recovery process is admitting that there is ...

Clutter in your virtual space.

Once you have organized and decluttered your physical space it's hard not to think about the clutter in your virtual space. Clutter in the virtual space involves everything from mislabeled documents on your computer to the optional technologies we choose to indulge in. This chapter will only look at organizing and decluttering your virtual space, and not unplugging from technology altogether, this will instead be discussed further along in the book. It is not my belief that the only way to embrace minimalism, unplug from the noise, and lead a more meaningful life is by cutting off all use o...

Decluttering your virtual space.

How do you start to declutter your virtual space? First thing is to delete everything that you do not need or use on your devices. If your laptop is packed to the brim with random documents, then that is the best place to start. Analyze all your files and folders and remove everything unnecessary such as old screenshots, old memes, and videos (and that season of Game of Thrones you insisted on downloading that one time the Wi-Fi was down, get rid of it!). School material from years ago also falls into this category. Most of us cling to that material with the notion that we are going to need...

ALIENS IN MY ROOM!

I opened my eyes and amongst the haze of sleep I could see the outline of four large green figures, my throat closed as heavy beads of sweat formed on my forehead and my heart started racing, fear and adrenaline consumed my body as my eyes darted to the nearest exit after the first thirty seconds of extreme paralysis logic kicked in and I thought, “oh my God! Are these aliens?! Whoever they were the fact that they have surrounded me means they don’t plan to hurt me, at least not yet”. The aliens around me having yet moved or spoken attempted some form of greeting. “Hello”, I said as I poole...
