Biography

It's a pleasure to meet you.
My name is Gray Kinsmin, but please, call me Min.
I am a craftsman, wordsmith, artist, and more, but my core lies in storytelling, whatever form that may take.

I fell in love with words when my father first introduced me to puns and clever wordplay. He showed me just how beautiful, flexible, and versatile words could be and I was hooked for life. I began to see and understand words in any way they appeared. Written, read, sung, or spoken, it all excited me. From a young age, I would stay up at night thinking of stories and rhyming things to myself. I often got into trouble for sneaking books and a flashlight into my bed every night. I grew up with Junie B. Jones and the magic treehouse, quickly graduating into fantasy epics like Eragon and Lord of the Rings. I relish any genre as long as it's well told. The same goes for my writing which I hold to a high standard, whatever the style. The genres I have the most experience with are shown below.

-High, low, and contemporary
-Fables, Fairy Tales, and retellings

Without Air

The rain took them away, but it also brought them back in its twisted way. Without fail, if I fall asleep to it's natural rhythm, I end up dreaming of that horrible day. I can’t hold back as my heavy eyes betray me. Suddenly the inevitable happens. I hear the sickening crunch of person and metal. A series of sounds come from confusing directions. I see her beautiful face, young and caressed by her curly, raven hair. This image of serenity displays as her mismatched scream sounds off. My father's big, broad shoulders shake in deep laughter as his eyes catch the light. But his eyes are a st...

Man in the Mirror

Amaryllis panicked slightly. She could ignore him at a distance, but close up wracked upon her nerves. There were no adults to look upon and be strengthened for the sake of. Her responses when alone would be completely her own. She knows how to respond in passing and other meaningless instances, but his flattering words were out of place, extraneous. Never had he done anything other than mock or ignore her. These almost beautiful compliments made the blood rush to her face. She, for a moment, wondered if the man in front of her was a completely different creature. A quick glance at his eyes...

If Cinderella Had a Mother

Porcelain girls in splendid dresses, An iron man distraught, he stresses, Brothers made of friendship’s stone, One destined for a heavy throne, A desired future, a past mistake, Which will be the first to break? The rain and land had finally called a ceasefire. The soil had its fill of drink and the clouds their fill of fun. Ella’s mare, pleased with the change in weather, picked up her pace in anticipation of cobbled roads instead of the mud stuck in her hooves. Aqueln’s capital housed its greatest marketplace at its center. Instead of referring to it by its formal name, T...

Lore Practice #1

The era of Land and Air was filled with peace and prosperity, and none like it would be seen again until the remaking of the world. Before our race was united into one, there were the Vinden people, masters of the air and stars, and the Geirtë, caretakers of rock and plants. They were a beautiful pair of peoples, immortal and gifted. They lived in unity and understanding from the moment they were created. The Vinden from Divine breath and the Geirtë from Divine tears. Though great, these people were not without faults and their hearts darkened as they coveted what the other had. Stars shone...

Leafaletta and Pastel

Not so long ago but very far away, in a land that is not our own, plants grew. These plants were large and grand; delicate and colorful with all sorts of lovely scents. The trees were even grander. Some had leaves of silver and trunks of gold. Raspberry bushes held fruits that look like jewels, yet were just as sweet as they should be. In other places, the sky tasted of soft blossoms and cool water. Other places still, the plants were like the ones in our world, deep greens and alive, like in a rainforest, hidden by miles of dripping leaves. However, this one was protected fiercely by its...

Various Poetry

Clown: No one knows No one sees Hid behind An aim to please I watch the sky I match the sea Tumult thoughts Like Pleiades I'm a craftsman A maker of masks An artist of emotion And life is my masquerade A face for every face That every day I have to face I made this one just for you Ignore the fact that it's not true I'm an artist and a painter I cover up the pain With paint upon the image of A mind that's gone insane My weapon of choice Is my words and my voice I make you laugh I laugh along To distract us when I don't belong I am weak When I look...

Doodle Abduction

My first thought was of the strange sensations I felt all around my body. It took a moment to register the feeling of cool water trickling in my hair and pooling at my feet. Everywhere the water didn’t touch, there was a pulsing warmth. Just a moment ago, I had been admiring the night sky, drawing on my arm, and listening to the pleasant sound of thousands of leaves rustling in unison to the wind. I shuddered thinking I must have fallen asleep on the roof. Though quite comfortable, I shook myself awake as I didn't want to be left in the rain. Slowly I managed to pry my eyes open one at ...

Depression Dog

Excerpt from Depression Dog: She sat on her new bed reading and writing in what used to be a leather-bound book. There wasn’t a trace of leather left on it, only the frayed under-web of what still held it together. She glanced at Yohan when he returned from the bathroom. A large, thermal shirt hung loosely over his torso paired with powder blue pajama pants. Avery’s glance lingered as she noticed how painfully skinny he looked. He crawled into his bed, plugged his phone in to charge, and began scrolling through his social media. Just more people supportive and disgruntled alike posting ...

The Day That Love Died

The Day That Love Died It is said, to live by the sword, One also dies of its accord The Son of Man, A carpenter Was slain upon some furniture. The wood and nails his hands had worked Now worked into his hands Made leak the liquid of his life Like an hourglass’s sand. A last fluttered breath Eyelids lower and mirror the sun His frame ceases to shudder To say that it is done. Crown of blood, Holey hands and feet. Descend below and darkness meets. His spirit travels, dripping red, Into the land of the truly dead The Will of God, the will of man Head to head, a battle ...
