Biography
Hello. My name is Maggie and I have a passion for non-fiction writing.
I love to research, learn about new things, and share what I learn with others. A good deal of my experience outside of TUW has been in the areas of health and education. Among the topics I have learned and written about are:
• best practices to teach the novel,
• teaching chemistry with common household products,
• how to prevent CMV in babies,
• safe driving for senior citizens,
• procedures to determine the usability of a biological safety cabinet,
• clinical decision support tools for electronic health records,
• evidence-based programs to promote community health and safety, and
• how to conduct cognitive interviews.
I have also written on topics that range from statistics to social media storytelling.
Professionally, I’ve had a varied career. I have had my own company and worked for several others: a research company, two cable systems, a TV station, and on Capitol Hill. I was partner in a record company and freelanced as a radio reporter and DJ.
The one thread that ties all of these experiences together is writing.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and a Master’s in Instructional Design.
I am an avid reader – both fiction and nonfiction. I especially enjoy light romance, mystery, speculative fiction, biography, and popular science.
Theater-going is another passion. I love to spend weekends in NYC checking out the latest shows. While I’m there, there’s also an amazing Japanese stationery/bookstore near Bryant Park where I can browse for hours. And a British bakery in Greenwich Village where you can get “real” fresh scones every morning.
I have loved to travel ever since I spent my Junior Year abroad in England. There’s something so invigorating about being in a place where the ordinary feels new! Your eyes are open to things you have learned not to notice in your everyday life. And people are so kind.
At home, I enjoy having coffee and dining out with friends. I am re-learning the piano, which is a very different experience as an adult. And I have a Covid puppy, a Boykin Spaniel, who keeps me on my toes! We do a lot of walking in the neighborhood and hiking in the woods. She’s a magnet for the children in the neighborhood, too.
I am detail oriented and good with deadlines (you have to be if you work in TV). If the niche is non-fiction, I would love to work with you.
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
I am an award-winning writer, producer, instructional designer and media production executive with experience in television, corporate and independent production. My focus has been projects that inform, educate, entertain, inspire action and present complex technical information clearly for a general audience.
I hold a BA in Politics and. in Instructional Design.
Interests and hobbies
I love words, so reading has always been a pleasure for me. I have a young dog who keeps me busy add got me back in touch with the seasons. I enjoy family, friends, travel and theater trips to New York.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I have been told that I am 'mental as anything' - and I do have a passion for the world of ideas. If you are familiar with Myers Briggs my type is Archtect (INTJ-A): independent, confident, introverted, intuitive, and good at listening.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
i approach my work with curiosity and integrity. One of the pleasures of non-fiction writing is learning about new things and so I seek out projects that either introduce intriguing new ideas or offer an opportunity to learn more about more familiar topics.
Why should you choose me for your project
I approach each project with creativity, organization, versatility, and enthusiasm.

Your Best Indoor Garden
It all started with an avocado. I love avocado, and one day after I’d finished making a batch of guacamole my friend Stephen asked if I’d ever sprouted a plant from an avocado pit. Now, I was not—had never been—a gardener. I grew up in the suburbs and watched my dad mow the grass. My mom used to arrange flowers for the table. But she bought them. We didn’t grow flowers. We certainly didn’t grow vegetables. The few times someone gave me a plant, it didn’t go well. So, when Stephen asked me about sprouting an avocado, I think I just gaped at him. But he was persistent. He washed off the av...
Cultivate the Trainer in You
Training is a learned skill. One thing you can do to practice is to imagine what might happen in the classroom and how you’ll respond. (That’s how athletes improve their game and directors learn to direct live TV shows). Mental rehearsal can be as valuable as time in the classroom. No matter whether you’re outgoing and social or tend to be more quiet and analytic – you can learn and apply the techniques that will help you be a good trainer. The key is to adapt the techniques in a way that works well for you. Just as trainees are individuals with different learning styles, each of us als...
Apples & Oranges
Every research study starts with a question that we want to answer about a certain population. Populations can be so large that we can’t get data from every member, so we use a sample – a small group that accurately represents the whole. People often ask, how can you study a large population with just a sample? Think about it this way. You’ve heard the expression “That’s like apples and oranges.” It means you can’t compare those two things because they’re not the same. It’s a great saying, but it’s not true. Yes, apples and oranges are different. One’s orange, the other’s red, or ...
Safer EHRs
In medicine, we’re trained to expect the unexpected. The key is to be prepared. EHR implementation presents a new set of challenges. EHR systems that run perfectly in demos, in reality do not. It is very inefficient to simply put an EHR on top of an existing routine, so we have to change how we work in order to use EHRs well. EHRs also introduce the potential for safety risks in ways we are not trained to anticipate. The SAFER Guides are self-assessment tools to help you and your team identify these risks and mitigate them. SAFER stands for Safety Assurance Factors for EHR Resilience....

Maggie was on top of every single detail on the book. She took into consideration all my reviews and the text I have submitted. She even went above and beyond to incorporate her own research and make the book a pleasure to read. I can't thank her enough for her hard work and dedications. Her work surpass my expectative.
