Headline

For writing that plays out like a Hollywood blockbuster

Biography

“When I’m writing, I feel like I have the power to conjure whole new worlds, with living characters made of flesh and blood. I love the art of crafting a narrative so graphic that it creates a lasting impression on the reader.

I get so engrossed in whatever I read or write that if I recall scenes from it years later, it plays out like a Hollywood blockbuster; the narrative is seared into my mind so vividly.

When I read, the world ceases to exist, time stops. I devour Sci-Fi, but I also like mystery, thriller/suspense, and dystopian fiction. My favorite writer is Clarke, with Asimov in close second.

What is my favorite book, you ask? That’s such an unfair question. But 'Childhood's End' by Clarke, 'The Complete Robot' by Asimov, 'Ender’s Game' by Orson Scott Card, and 'Tell Me Your Dreams' by Sidney Sheldon are among my favorites. I bawled my eyes out reading 'The Time Traveler's Wife' by Audrey Niffenegger and burst out laughing on a public train while reading 'The Martian' by Andy Weir.

Next to reading and writing, I love watching movies.”

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I am a former journalist, editor, and writer with 19 years of writing experience. When I wasn't writing, I either edited or trained others to write. But long before I was a Features Editor, I was a humble journalist doing all the grunt work, such as writing features and news features on issues related to environment, health, policy, law, gender, literature, and art. I have a Bachelor of Arts, diplomas in Biodiversity and Environment Management, and a Master's degree in Environment Management.

I also worked as a Life Sciences Manuscript Reviewer at Cactus Communications, Singapore, in 2023. My work at Cactus involved combining language skills and subject-area expertise to help researchers worldwide publish cutting-edge research in prestigious journals (Think "Nature" and "Science"). I performed quality-assurance checks on edited manuscripts to ensure they met international publication standards and provided feedback to editors.

Since you probably have better things to do than go over my two-decade-long career, I'll spare you the details and list the rest.

Design Content Manager, ABS Gardner Dixon Hall International (April 2022 - March 2023). Features Editor, The Island (January 2018 - April 2022). Senior Deputy Editor, The Nation (February 2017 - January 2018); Features Editor, The Nation (August 2011 - February 2017); Journalist, Daily News (August 2010 - August 2011), and Journalist, Sunday Observer (February 2008 - August 2010).

My academic background includes a Master's degree in Environment Management (UoC) - 2017; Postgraduate Diploma in Environment Management (UoC) - 2016; Diploma in Biodiversity Management (UoC) - 2009; and a Bachelor of Arts (UoK) - 2006.

Interests and hobbies

Next to writing, reading is my favorite pastime. I devour science fiction. I also love watching movies. Did I say I love writing?

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

If I have a steady supply of good Sci-Fi books and movies, I could go months without ever wanting to leave my room.
I am equal parts Science and Art.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

With the help of your outline, I identify the goals and expectations for the project, the target audience, and key messages that you hope to convey to the readers.

Then I research and gather information based on material suggested in the outline, notes, personal research, or anecdotes. I also tap into my own sources.

Based on the information gathered, I organize the main points and structure of the text.

Then I write the draft in your voice to ensure consistency.

I follow it up with editing and revising for clarity, coherence, and overall quality.

I proofread to ensure that the text is error free in terms of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

The last step in my writing process is seeking and incorporating your feedback.

Why should you choose me for your project

Throughout my extensive media production and advertising career, I have honed my writing, editing, communication skills, and attention to detail. Consequently, I can research and structure content as well as edit and proofread them. I am versatile as I have perfected various writing styles, from creative storytelling, informative articles, and compelling blog posts to persuasive copywriting. So I can easily emulate your voice and writing style. I will communicate with you regularly to ensure the content I provide meets the highest Dibbly|TUW quality and accuracy standards.

The Marriage Bureau

None of Alvin’s wives could satisfy him. The latest, the third in line, was tardy. She routinely overslept and made breakfast late. Therefore, every Thursday Alvin would – pardon the oxymoron – be promptly late for the weekly progress meeting. Alvin wasn’t bad looking, but there wasn’t anything particularly attractive about him either. He was old-fashioned, with hair slicked back and too neatly parted. It was an affront to the preferred tousled style of 3052. He wore a meticulously tailored fine wool and silk suit. It was beige and painfully stuck out in the sea of black and gray suits t...

The Race

“Nicholson? It could be bad intel,” said Matthew, incredulous. Kate shook her head, uncomfortably aware of the beads of sweat that broke over her brow. She had just told him she had reliable intel that her opponent in the congressional race was lining his pockets with taxpayer money. It was a cliché trope in the world of politics, but she could not come up with anything more creative on such short notice. Besides, she had to think of something the old conservative was definitely not guilty of, and Nicholson would never skim off tax money. Matt was a dear old friend, but she could not get...

Marriage of Convenience

She was drenched to the skin. The wild run through the woods had left her petticoat mud-stained, and her soft blond curls fell limply over her shoulders. She didn’t care about keeping up appearances anymore. Her wet silk dinner dress clung to her, and the corset was stifling. She felt like tearing them off, curling up in a corner, and crying. The rain mingled with her tears and ran down her shivering body. She was glad he wouldn’t have the satisfaction of seeing her cry. “Why did you do that?” demanded Christine, fists clenched. She hoped that Daniel didn’t notice the crack in her voice....

Neon City

Daisy tried to grasp the enormity of this colossal feat of engineering. The Terminal’s 30 platforms served what must have been 50 tracks spanning over 30 miles. The sheer number of platforms and tracks crammed into the cavernous subterranean space was disorienting. Thankfully, she found herself swept along by the steady stream of commuters. Refined men in tailored suits and elegant women in cloches spilled into the Main Concourse. Their chatter and the rapping of a thousand feet on the hard marble floor added to the hubbub of the Grand Central. Such hustle and bustle was foreign to Daisy...

Marie Antoinette: Fall from Grace

Marie Antoinette was once adored by the French public. This is embodied in her words to her mother in a letter, “How fortunate we are, given our rank, to have gained the love of a whole people with such ease” (Fraser, 2001). At the time, the seventeen-year-old Dauphine could not have known that such sentiments would not last. Political Naivete A mere pawn in her mother's political agenda, Marie Antoinette was no political strategist. Unlike her sister, Amalia, a natural political intriguer adept in the art of manipulation, the young Dauphine showed little interest in politics. She was...

Stella is truly a treasure. Beyond her professional grasp of the craft and language, her ability to bring human feeling and emotion to the page is impressive. More than anything else, Stella understood me, my intentions and my voice and excelled at being able to emulate me while deeply enriching the life of my characters. It was truly a pleasure to work with her. I intend to write more and will absolutely work with her again.
