Biography

My name is Eva Mercedes, and I've been writing since I was six years old. Much to my older sister’s dismay, a little love song or poem would always find its way etched into the concrete of my parent’s driveway with chalk (lots of purples and blues). I only realized, however, that I could really write when my mom encouraged me to enter a couple of Canadian writing contests when I was fifteen. I was published and received honorable mentions in both.

English literature is the subject I excelled in throughout school, and so it was natural for me to major in its Honors program in university here in Montreal. Being from Québec, my second language is French and that gives me an interesting perspective on linguistics and how it relates to culture. For example, it's not uncommon to say "Enchanté" when you're first introduced to someone. The direct equivalent in English translates to, "Enchanted." Imagine being enchanted to meet someone. Quite a romantic language, isn't it?

I've been professionally writing since 2013. Over the years, I've accumulated quite the repertoire, writing blog articles for new websites and established companies alike. Along with my academic background, this makes me very familiar with research and study. I'm also a bit of a nerd when it comes to instructions and deadlines. Doing things at the last minute makes my eye twitch, so I tend to complete projects well before the deadline so as to give me enough time to proofread, edit, and review everything.

Truly, my love of writing stems from reading. (I was the kid reading the cereal box every morning.) I love reading biographies of the people I want to learn from, and I love anything that has my heart beating out of my chest. I'm a sucker for a good romance story but I also enjoy thrillers, dramas, mysteries, and fantasy. I also have a penchant for Victorian Era stuff like "Dracula" or anything from Charles Dickens. The one I keep coming back to though is "Frankenstein."

I'm skilled in both fiction and nonfiction. I've published romance novellas online before and have also worked on larger fiction projects ranging from 40-60,000 words. I've also done a ton of nonfiction in which the language needed to be very technical or even creative. (See my snippets!)

I love writing. It's when I feel most myself. Working with clients, I usually ask a lot of questions because I want to know you and figure out what you need. That way, we can work together to figure out your most authentic writing voice too.
