Biography

Hello there! My name is Deanna and I bring decades of writing experience and a boat load of enthusiasm to my work here on Urban Writers as a freelance writer. If you work with me, I promise that your project will be held in my highest priority with my goal to deliver exactly what you ask for and need. I am an excellent and timely communicator, honing these important skills during my twenty year career in public education in California as both a teacher and administrator.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies, two active teaching credentials in the state of California, a current US license for massage therapy, and a certificate as a Reiki Master Teacher. I currently practice massage and energy healing as well as teaching English online after leaving my successful career in education to begin a new life for myself in Jamaica, where I have been living for the past six years and working on my book (among all of the other roles I mentioned!).

I have my own online publication with a growing readership, including paid readers, where I write from my heart about mindfulness, simple living, and my personal journey of transformation and freedom.

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I'm a soulful firecracker—a healing-hearted truth-teller who dives deep, feels big, and somehow makes even the messiest life lessons sparkle with wisdom. Part mystic, part rebel, I walk barefoot on the earth with a sketchbook in one hand and a peace sign in the other, whispering, “Let’s suffer better, shall we?” 🪄🎨🩵☮️

How I'd describe my approach to my work

My number 1 approach to my work is with integrity; I always do what I say I will do, and you can count on me. Meeting deadlines is a superpower of mine, and taking someone's ideas and turning them into something magical is a skill I've honed over decades of experience both professionally and personally.

Why should you choose me for your project

There's no should in this life, only vibration. Choose me if you want your project done on time from someone who cares about it, and you feel my vibe. It is my wish that you find the perfect writer to help you and only you can decide who feels perfect for you.

My Happiest Memory

“Are you sure you don’t want to come?” The smirk that accompanied my seemingly innocent question belied my knowing that of course he didn’t want to come. He looked at me incredulously and rolled his eyes in the way that only a son could do to his mother. “Um, no, I’m good. I have no desire or need for that matter to see a bunch of old naked people on the beach…gross!” ”Not to mention your mom,” I couldn’t help adding while chuckling at the look of horror on his face. I swung my happily sandaled feet out of the truck without a care in the world, grabbed my beloved thirty-plus year...

The Ultimate Guide to Burnout

The Ultimate Guide to Burnout What is burnout? The term “burnout” was first created in the 1970’s by an American psychologist named Herbert Freudenberger in an effort to describe what happened to those in the helping professions due to severe stress and high ideals. Research unequivocally shows that burnout is an organizational issue, not an individual issue and burnout for you may not look the same as burnout for someone else. Burnout is unique to each person in terms of how you get there, why you get there, and how to recover and this guide will help you to see the pathway to ...
