Biography

"The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past." -William Faulkner

My name is John Vincent, and I have been a writer in Los Angeles since 2006. But my overall passion for writing goes back to the halcyon days of bulky desktop computers and clunky word processors. Before my feet could even touch the floor in the early 90s, I dazzled my parents by writing what amounted to fan fiction sequels to stories like Where the Red Fern Grows that were so near and dear to my heart.

As a screenwriter in Southern California, I have written or co-written two shorts, two pilot specs, and seven feature specs; one of which was featured as a trending screenplay on The Black List. Several others were accepted as official selections at international writing festivals. But despite my passion for screenwriting, I've always made it a point to be a well-rounded writer. My first gig in LA was as a staff writer for an online lifestyle magazine.

At home, my bookshelf is stacked with everything from biographies of Julius Caesar and Kurt Cobain to stacks of fiction ranging from the Southern Gothic of William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy to the sci-fi of Michael Crichton and Jeff VanderMeer. Over the years, I have found that being a curious reader translates into being a unique writer.

In the realm of FICTION, I am capable and qualified to write in the following genres:

-Fantasy
-Historical fiction
-Horror
-Mystery
-Science Fiction
-Thriller
-Western

For NON-FICTION, my niches include:

-Biographies
-History
-Philosophy
-Self-Help
-Instructional
-Politics

I'm easygoing and take direction well and would love nothing more than to have a conversation with you about the specifics of your project!

Gettysburg: Day 3

Gettysburg Day 3. Overnight, the human carnage was unlike anything anyone had seen before. Thousands of dead bodies. Tens of thousands of wounded. Piles of amputated arms and legs stood 8 feet high outside of the hospital tents. Every house and farmhouse within several miles had been commandeered by the two armies. Nevertheless, Lee was undeterred. Having come oh so tantalizingly close to routing Meade several times on Day 2, the Silver Fox was not about to take his foot off the gas. Since Longstreet's corps had relentlessly pounded Meade's left flank that day, Lee speculated that his adver...

Dark Psychology: Psychopathy

Psychopath. What is the first image that comes to your mind when you hear that term? Take a moment to solidify the image. Is it Patrick Bateman’s blood-spattered face? A machete-wielding Jason Voorhees? Or perhaps a real-life serial killer like Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer? Regardless of who (or what) popped into your head, chances are it wasn’t your weird neighbor or your awkward co-worker. And in truth, those two people are probably not psychopaths, either. In fact, it is estimated that only about 1% of the population accurately fits the academic classification of psychopathy. M...
