Writer, Editor, Researcher & Thesaurus Devotee

Biography

Hello! I am a writer, editor, and researcher living in Los Angeles, California. My specialties are history, beauty, fashion, and queer theory, but I always enjoy branching into new topics through research. I adore thoughtful, engaging word choice (Langston Hughes, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and F. Scott Fitzgerald are some of my favorites) and am passionate about creating work that connects with people. A thesaurus, tea, and earbuds are my answer to Hemingway's fountain pen, extra-dry martini, and bull-running expeditions.

I graduated from Chapman University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Anthropology. I started working as a copyeditor for an academic journal in 2016 and was scouted by Dr. Shira Klein to edit her first book, “Italy’s Jews From Emancipation to Fascism,” the following year. Upon graduating in 2019, I entered the role of copywriter at an insurance office. I handled all of their written correspondence, as well as their in-house marketing and their phone lines.

Having worked with a variety of materials and formats, I can confidently say my favorite aspect of writing is language. Carefully chosen words and intentionally-crafted sentences are essential to successful writing; my goal is clear communication, and to do so in a manner that is engaging and appealing. In my spare time, I write creatively as well. It allows me to have fun, explore tone, and increase my writing flexibility.

Thank you for your time today! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

I have professionally copyedited since 2016 and started copywriting in 2019, which is the same year I graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Anthropology. My undergraduate thesis, "The Anatomy of Patriotism: The Commodification of American Gender Roles and the Female Body in World War II Print Media," was published in the eleventh volume of the historical journal "Voces Novae."

At my most recent job, I was the sole copywriter and editor for the office. I managed all official written materials (everything from letters to email templates), created and executed a letter and email campaign that ran for twelve months, and wrote an official handbook for all office bureaucratic tasks. As a freelancer, I have written email campaigns, social media posts, and website descriptions. Tone matching is my specialty, and I write sample pieces for big brands in my free time to finetune my skill set.

Interests and hobbies

In my spare time, I enjoy keeping up with the latest historical television series, analyzing celebrity beauty styling to recreate, or sifting through thrift stores and the depths of the internet for the perfect statement coat. I also like to work out and spend a lot of time with my friends. For a relaxing evening, I like to listen to music, cook (pasta is a love language), and try my hand at different cocktail recipes--I love to create!

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I consider myself to be analytical and artistic; dedicated and detailed; and contemplative and careful. I also love lists and adore alliteration.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs; my grandmother and my father have each started businesses. Being around such work environments from such a young age formed the basis of my professional philosophy, which can be defined by an "all hands on deck" mentality. No one is above a task; when something needs completion, I will work to get it done. I value feedback and enjoy collaboration. Though I may be its creator, I want the work to feel authentic to you and your goals. I believe direct, polite communication is the backbone of a healthy business relationship. While I love to interact with and get to know my clients, I know how busy they are, so I am effective with my time and points of contact.

Why should you choose me for your project

I am a thorough, detail-oriented writer with a background in editing and research. This positions me to quickly, cleanly, and accurately create work for a multitude of topics, including ones I do not have experience with yet. I firmly believe professional agendas can be conferred with creativity and beauty; the work I create for you will be succinct, effective, and compelling. Additionally, I am always more than happy to keep reshaping our project, until it looks exactly how you want it to.

Website Description Concept for Hendrick's Gin

Why do something efficiently, when one can do it elegantly? Hendrick’s Gin begins with a uniquely elaborate process, a dance of two spirits destined to become one. Contrastingly decadent and dainty, the gins swirl together in a floral menagerie of flavors: chamomile, elderflower, juniper, lemon peel, orange peel, caraway, coriander, cubeb berries, angelica root, yarrow root and orris root. A final curling ribbon of Rose and Cucumber infusions pull them breathlessly together, culminating in one irregular yet spectacular pas de deux. Blossoming aromatics and a fresh finish on the palate make ...

Excerpt from "The Anatomy of Patriotism: The Commodification of American Gender Roles and the Female Body in World War II Print Media"

Cosmetic Courage: Lipstick Advertisements and the Servicewoman Lips were a central part of the persona of one of the era's most controversial—and patriotic—figures, who epitomized the lipsticked woman in uniform. Seen in an array of men’s clothes—from top hat and tuxedo to captain’s hat and shoulder boards to, later, garrison cap and Army uniform—Marlene Dietrich was no stranger to the masculine closet. Established as a film star in the 1930s, she was notorious for her gender-bending dress and sexual nonconformance; yet controversy subsided as she became the poster child of celebrity patri...
