A fiction writer with the scope to do anything.

Biography

Hello! My name is Valentine March, and I like to tell stories. I believe that the page is an oasis, and I am simply the conduit for rain. I am a young artist based in Colorado, most passionate in music, painting, and baking. I love to get lost in fiction and fantasy, but also enjoy researching and informing on purely intellectual topics, with a deep interest in the way the universe ticks. Most of all, I am a hard worker, and try to read and write as much as I can to keep myself sharp. I like to see the world through rose colored glasses, and as an actor with Russian heritage, Anton Chekhov speaks to me: "Don't tell me the moon is shining, show me the glint of light on broken glass."

Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications

4 years of experience at The Urban Writers alongside personal freelance work.

The Tennis Club

I missed Nebraska the moment we left, but I knew that we’d be back for Thanksgiving. Nana made the best banana bread during the holidays. The first order of business was to enroll us in the closest public school, get the kids out of the house. Macie—my now second youngest sister—was two grades below me, so she attended the middle school down the street. We commuted together every morning, lunch boxes filled with cold cuts; silent in our camaraderie. I was a freshman. Freshman year is a special kind of hell for everyone, but it was especially bad for a string-bean white boy in an 84% b...

Supermassive Black Holes

Black holes are an elusive type of body to study, and with what little research there is on them, there’s even less known about their more enormous variant, supermassive black holes. Astrophysicists cannot definitively know how these form because they’re so hard to observe, but they are widely studied and progress in the field is made every day. One of the more recent breakthroughs in understanding black holes is getting an image of one. In 2019, the EHT (Event Horizon Telescope) captured the first straight-on image of a supermassive black hole in the center of the M87 galaxy, along with ma...

Little-a letter by Joan of Arc

Fearlessness was the only skill I knew. That and embroidery—but the latter was expected of a peasant girl. The former was expected of a saint. Somehow, I managed both. Quietly, I entered the world. Bright and naive; our fields were the farthest I had ventured. Until there was war. An unjust war, and we had to send our fathers and brothers to die for us, to die bravely--as if there’s any honor in being slaughtered! Surely, I was destined to do more for the world than sew smocks and marry some nobody in some small village. So I left. Sheared my hair off with a rusty kitchen knife, nothi...
