Biography
Cyan Evoll is a freelance writer who has a deep appreciation for languages and the power of words. Previously an English teacher, she has nearly two decades of work experience and believes strongly in helping others to reach their full potential. Her life motto is to always leave a space, physical or otherwise, better than she found it. Her educational choices had been a series of oxymoron starting with a Bachelor in Computer Engineering to a Post-Graduate Diploma to teach both Physics and English (preferably separately) to most recently a Masters in Science Communication. In her spare time, Cyan enjoys hiking, diving, traveling, and playing Two Dots. She is greatly inspired by nature, art, and science.
Previous experience, degrees, and qualifications
Masters in Science Communication
Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (trained to teach Physics and English)
Bachelor in Computer Engineering
My very first job was an admin executive. Besides learning a lot of mundane office girl tasks, I really honed my typing speed and skill. I was also a waitress which I truly think is an occupation everyone should have experience in at least once in their lifetime. One can learn so much from interacting with and serving strangers.
I had always wanted to be a teacher (and a backup dancer by night) so it was very natural to pick up a teacher assistant role when I was in university. As I did not really fancy being an engineer, I became a The Little Gym instructor, teaching children gymnastics. There, I taught a child with autism whom I felt a deep affinity to. That led me to sign up as a school teacher and I taught teens with special needs for 3 years.
My love for diving made me realize the extent of damage we had inflicted on our planet, especially the oceans, due to our consumerism mindset. That sparked an interest in sustainability and inspired me to pursue the Masters in Science Communication so I can be better equipped to advocate for Mother Earth.
Interests and hobbies
I care about the environment. Nature fascinates me and I love being outdoors and underwater. Thus I enjoy hiking and diving. My favorite countries for these activities are Nepal, Bhutan, and Thailand. I love checking out new places! However, the current state of our planet is worrying so sustainability is one thing I advocate to others.
I stay physically active because I understand the importance. My first job was being a The Little Gym instructor. The idea of combining earning a wage and staying fit simultaneously was so cool! I love dancing, swimming and playing netball too.
My go-to physical activity now is yoga. It has been a major factor contributing to my well-being. To gain a deeper understanding, I trained to be a yoga instructor and I enjoy sharing its benefits with others. Mental health is another area that interests me. I devour books and videos on this topic.
How I'd describe my personality in two sentences
I'm optimistic, considerate, and adaptable. I like bringing joy to others so I thrive to stay positive and make people feel comfortable but I am also astute and flexible enough to make changes when necessary.
How I'd describe my approach to my work
I believe in giving my 100% in all that I do. I am organized and systematic and my working style is to complete work in a similar logical and efficient manner. As an ex-English teacher, I am somewhat a "grammar Nazi" so I am very meticulous with self-checks before submission of work.
Why should you choose me for your project
First of all, I am very easy to work with! Many of my peers and subordinates had often given me this positive feedback. I am polite and prompt in communication so you will definitely have a pleasant experience choosing me for your project.
I am confident in my expertise and work ethics to say that the quality of the work I produce will be extremely high and will certainly meet your requirements and standards. Yet, I am humble enough to acknowledge that I do not know everything so I will definitely ask and clarify whenever I am unsure of a topic or criterion.

A Stoic Life
If you are tasked to construct a sentence with the adjective "stoic", you might come up with: -He was the only one with a stoic expression while everyone around him shouted and cheered at the announcement. -The professionals remained stoic in their demeanor even as the timer on the bomb counted down towards the final seconds. In contemporary times, the word stoic is most commonly used to describe someone who is impassive, cold and emotionless. But were the ancient Stoics all heartless as such? It is a common misconception of Stoicism. The core of it may be the definition of acceptance an...
The Tale of The Rose
The Little Prince is one of my favourite books. It is written in such simple language yet the lessons within are so profound. The love story between the prince and his rose helped me understand that a relationship is not always tender and delightful but often involves pain and hurt as well. I felt the prince’s love for his rose and once thought it would be a blessing to be his rose. It was a very real love story of two human beings. I had wondered what kind of woman the rose had been for the prince to feel so much for yet choose to leave behind. However, I am not here to review The Littl...
The Fault in Our Stars
Importance of fiction. The main character, Hazel, has a favorite book in the story. Yes, a book within a book. With it, the theme of the value of fiction surfaces. It brings up the point that made up stories can matter, especially when it matches the reader’s own experiences. It can bring comfort, joy and companionship. Personally, I like it when reading brings me into a different world that I can escape to and learn from. And like this quote, I often cannot find words for my thoughts and feelings but in books i sometimes find the answers I seek. The theme of suffering. The story is basi...
What is wrong with "letting go" during dives?
Thus I read the article with great interest. Unfortunately, just into the third paragraph, alarm bells rang off in this Physics teacher’s head as it began with “water is an excellent conductor of heat...” This doctor/blogger/author has got her Physics concepts so wrong. Divers feel cold underwater purely because the water temperature can get as low as 15 degrees Celsius and thermal energy is transferred in liquids mainly by convection and not conduction. I guess to be fair, it was difficult for me to grasp the various Biology-based concepts she listed in the article as well. But as any g...
