Biography

“I write because it gives me the greatest possible artistic pleasure to write.” - Oscar Wilde

My name is Breton O’Flaherty, and I have been writing for as long as I can remember holding a pencil. I had the pleasure of being double-featured at my alma mater’s English department colloquium in 2018 and am a multiple-time scholarship winner in regards to my writing.

As a child, I had a fascination with writing and classical literature with a distinct passion for Dark Romantic-era literature. I would read almost anything that I could get my hands on, and thus I acquired a myriad of interests from a young age. My writing began in earnest in my teenage years, where I would be often found with a blank journal, writing down any ideas that I had. At one time in High School, I distinctly remember my bookshelf’s contents being predominantly journals as opposed to literature. The subjects I wrote about were varied and creative, and nothing brought me more pleasure than finding a new topic.

Writing has been the one thing that I have always returned to. It is my sanctuary, my comfort, my first true love. Such is why I write; I wish to share this love. I desire to bring the excitement that the crafter word gives me to new audiences.

Let me know how my desire can help your dreams come true!

Example 1 (Fiction)

“It’s a shame that things had to come to this.” A man, forty years old, sat alone at a wooden table. A plate of meat and potatoes and a tin coffee cup sat in front of him. Behind him, a fire crackled, warm and inviting in contrast to the rain that poured outside. The smell of freshly-cooked food filled the small wooden shack. He smiled and cut through a dark piece of meat. It gave way, tender and moist. Perfectly cooked. “I had a plan. Things were going to be just fine. Had it all worked out…” He shook his head, long dark hair with hints of gray moving with him. Weathered features sta...

Example 2 (Non-Fiction)

What do you think of when you hear the word “manipulate”? Do you imagine a dark figure in an office chair, behind a desk, with their fingers steepled? Does the concept of an illicit group of persons who control the world from the safety of some secret lair? How about trench-coated strangers meeting in back alleys, handing off sums of cash before one of them disappears into the crowd to never be seen again? And what if you were told that was only part of it? Manipulation is a psychological tool that can be used to do many things from influence the hero of a book or movie to convincing ...
