My contentment: bringing back pearls from the depths of the human mind; listening to unspoken words; word mongering:)
Biography
Hello, I am Rumi,
I am a book lover who cannot wait to get hold of another copy of one, be it fiction or non-fiction. The power of the pen amazes me no end. Having spent the past 20 years of my professional life as a lawyer and teacher, I value the life stories of people I met during my assignments in different places. Reading and writing have always been a passion that has been perpetually enriched by the professions I have been in and my journey as a mother.
Memories of my childhood are of my time spent with books of all genres. I loved folktales from around the world; presently, Malcolm Gladwell is my favorite author. In my opinion, his work on human psychology and society makes him one of the most brilliant thinkers of this era.
As far as my qualifications go, I am a law graduate with a master's in Business Law ( B.A.L., LLB, M.B.L) and a qualified teacher with a bachelor's in Education(B Ed ). I have practiced law and have been a curriculum designer and academic coordinator. I periodically update my skills with relevant courses and training. I think I can be best described as an eternal student. I am also a trained dancer and am drawn to understanding health and fitness for my well-being.
Otherwise, I love spending time outdoors, especially in the parks and nature trails. I am taking baby steps in birding of late. I also love to explore food and find the local markets of a new place fascinating. I am drawn to the idea of minimalism and find myself browsing through the spiritual and travel sections of bookstores nowadays.
Writing is a natural choice for me and I would love to be of help in reaching out your ideas to the world. I can help with both fiction and non-fiction and law-related drafts as well. I am a patient listener and love the idea of researching for hours on end. I eagerly look forward to collaborating with you to ensure that your passionate ideas translate into exceptional work.

A Learner's Guide to Neo-Paganism
Realizing that I could be in for an extended discussion, I needed to choose my opening words carefully. There always has to be an existential crisis underlying any religion-touching conversation in the family. “Well, there were some fascinating rituals followed by our ancestors, you know and he wants to know more about them I guess.” Mom’s angry face turned into a mix of confusion and nostalgia. I couldn't help congratulating myself for the choice of words here. “You don’t have to really worry Mom. I am not getting on the defensive with him either. I am comfortable with my religious prac...
Being Kind to The Adamant Me!
‘You are dozing off on that chair! You were safer on the couch.’ My exasperated daughter exclaimed trying to hide the annoyance in her tone as she hurried out of the door for a long day at work. Hurt and discouraged, I repented having signed up for that chair yoga session down the street. She was worried that I would injure myself with a fall, but here I am, trying to build a healthy routine and seeming to go nowhere apart from looking ridiculous. Well, that was me, four years back. Yes, it was a low-spirited start. At five feet nine inches, weighing 207 pounds, and having worked 35 yea...
Why Changing Myself Was The First Step
I needed to face it finally, I had some amount of self-loathing inside of me, though my brain puts up a sincere fight every time I bring up this topic for self-talk. I have believed that I am capable of generally doing well in life, and I would approach challenges with a fundamental sense of enthusiasm and positivity. Well, these notions would get challenged from time to time, and fear, self-doubt, and a general sense of lack of purpose would seep in, but, at the end of it all, I would have battled to regain my mojo. I am sensitive to my environment, I am not the kind who will put up with a...
To All the Incredible Kids Out There..
Heyya! A big welcome from the motley bunch of adults who have teamed up to curate a collection of all things amazing, just for you. But wait! Here's one incredible fact for you about adults that we usually keep under wraps and hate admitting to young people. It is that we envy the way you youngsters soak up new information. You intuitively figure out the nuances of the smartphone while I am struggling to set the wallpaper. While you explain how the newly launched phone has better pixel density in the camera I will come back to you asking what the fuss is all about. You effortlessly throw ...
My Misguided Journey in Parenting
I thought I was setting up my daughter for happiness and academic success when I spent time, energy, and money making sure she got into the best school possible. Turns out, I was chasing status. Mention a fancy-sounding curriculum and ‘we are different’ positioning- and I was sold! Little did I know I was enrolling myself in a degree in parental insanity in the process. I was flush with the thrill of my assignment — the world was waiting to watch the new mother’s parenting skills. I dreaded to end up in Mrs. Rao’s shoes. Last week at the Chaturthi gathering she mentioned the local ...
Game On: Finally Tasting Success in the Screen Time Showdown
To see him fling his school bag and bolt towards the laptop was like witnessing a supercharged scene — a dramatic reunion of a mother and her kidnapped child! Except that here, I, the mother, was the evil gal. Being a Mom was more like signing up to play baddie in a college play, knowing that I’m hated, but having to sign up nevertheless. He had no intentions to help either. Seriously, how is it possible for the fellow to give me that traumatized look each time? You’d think I asked him to give up on chocolate. “How long do you plan to play today?” is what I asked. Can you see malice in t...
The Wolves of The Yellowstone
He showed me the worn-out paper, letting out a tired sigh. “I’m ashamed of what I did, Ryan. Our town hated the wolves, and I thought we were right,” he said, his shoulders slumping. I’d never seen Grandpa in a funk and hated to see him this way. “But aren’t you proud of what you do now?” I said quickly. “You’re practically a superhero with all that work in the park!” His face softened into a smile. “Thanks, kiddo. But I’ve got some making up to do.” That summer, my kid sister Catlyn and I were packed onto a flight from New York to Bozeman, Montana, and handed off to Grandpa. It wa...
All About the War
“Hey, Ben!” I heard my sister call out behind me. I had just returned home after spending fourteen months in a war zone. It felt amazing to be back with my family. She smiled as she said, “Jenny’s school principal spoke about how brave our soldiers are. Now she thinks you’re Superman! She wants to know everything about your work.” I smiled, too. I’d love to talk to my ten-year-old niece about my life as a soldier. It’s taken me to faraway places where people live very differently from us. I’ve learned how to understand their feelings and respect their way of life—even when it’s not li...
My Pet and The Shiny New Car
Two New Additions "But all my friends have a pet!" Kaeli had protested earlier that day, arms crossed, her little face scrunched in a determination that only a four-year-old could muster on a hectic Monday morning. "Four is not ‘all,’ sweetie," Owen had replied, though he knew he was fighting a battle he couldn’t win. He glanced at Luna, hoping she might back him up. "But you two are our pets," Luna had teased from the kitchen as she packed their lunches. Kaeli did not find this funny. Instead, she let out a dramatic wail loud enough to make Owen huff in defeat. "Alright, alright—we...
The Sponge That Ate My Backpack
Seven-year-old Clara loved three things. Her pet turtle Peggy, going to the swimming pool with her friends and talking. She could talk to anyone, her big brother Ben, her friends at Charmwood Elementary, and even Peggy, who blinked slowly in return. Peggy had a cozy corner in Clara’s room, and she nibbled lettuce from a colourful dish. It was Clara’s dish when she was a baby. Peggy’s favourite treat was carrots. Every Sunday, Clara gave Peggy a warm bath. “A clean turtle is a happy turtle,” Mama said. Did you know some turtles like gentle baths to keep their shells healthy? To help, Dada ...
