Biography

"Write hard and clear about what hurts."
- Ernest Hemingway

You can call me Straya and I've been obsessed with words for as long as I can remember. From reading them, to writing them and anyone who knows me well can I agree that I love speaking them and can do so at length. I started my writing journey by keeping journals from a young age and from there I entered the annual local eisteddfods and other writing competitions throughout my school years. I've blogged in a personal capacity as well as being published on sites like Thought Catalog and Society19. I've also dabbled in writing my own Wattpad books as a fun hobby to share with my friends since high school.

I love to read and write poetry but I also enjoy longer forms of writing such as essays, think-pieces and books. I've written a few research papers in my time and I'm completely comfortable doing more. I'm quite an open person and I love writing from a very personal and vulnerable place. I think some of the best art comes from sharing one's pain.

I'm a true aesthete and have actually just received a Bachelor of the Arts in Film Production and am well versed in the world of filmmaking as well as the more behind the scenes aspects like scriptwriting. I love literature, art, music, fashion, film and social media and pop culture is one my guilty pleasures. That said, I'm also always willing (and looking forward) to challenging myself, learning new things and going outside my comfort zone. I think my writing style is as open and adventurous as my spirit. I'm hard-working and looking forward to creating amazing content with amazing people.

I Know That I Shouldn't Miss You But I Still Do

It’s so easy to forget all the bad times, the hurt and the tears when you love someone. Maybe it’s a survival instinct. Maybe we’re wired to focus on all the good stuff. To fixate on the laughter, the hugs, the magical nights, the intimate moments, the sheer comfort. I don’t know. All I know is that I miss you. It’s an ever present ache, almost like I can feel that a part of me is missing. What’s worse is that I know it’s my choice. I’m the one who walked away. I’m the one who decided that I’d had enough, that I deserved better, that I deserved to feel like you wanted me as much as I ...

Last Night: Taking Chances

Allegra was watching makeup videos on her phone as she worked her shift at the convenience store, muttering the occasional “Oop” and “That’s...AMAZING”. She worked at the convenience store to make a little spending money and to keep herself occupied while her friends were busy. She was really supposed to be watching the security feed but nothing ever happened here. And why would it? This place was about five steps below a 7-Eleven but her hours were flexible and the pay was decent enough. It didn’t hurt that it was 10 minutes from home and she got free food on the job, even if it wasn’t...

Fight For Love

He watched the two spar for a few minutes with a smile on his face and then pursed his mouth to release a piercing whistle that immediately captured everyone’s attention. He enjoyed watching his two best fighters but the fight seemed to have moved from fighting to something a little too steamy for the workplace. All movement in the gym stopped as everyone turned to face him, giving him their undivided attention. He simply raised his eyebrows at the spectators questioningly, causing them to immediately scatter. He walked toward the ring until he was within touching distance. “Sooo...

Jilted Bride

“How dare you show up late and underdressed to our wedding!? Do you have any idea how bad this looks on both of our families?” She shrieked at him as she bore down on him. On Jake’s part, he didn’t slow down or falter in his stride as she got closer and louder. She repeated herself as she bore down on him. He said nothing as he passed by her. Layla felt herself get even angrier at the snub, she spun around and grabbed him by the arm with a tight grip. “Are you not hearing me!?” she demanded of him angrily, tightening her grip as she did so. He ripped his arm out of her grip before ...
