Headline

With words i can weave wonders. Each word has a sound, each sound the beating of my heart. I write, therefore i am.

Biography

I have been writing since i was about 12 years old - my first story was about a squirrel that didn't like eating nuts. Since then i've endured six years of high school studying Maths, English and the Sciences, and from there I took on five years of further education, emerging successfully with an honours in Zoology and an MSc in Marine Ecology. In every job i've ever had i've taken it on personally to produce informative and entertaining staff magazines designed to boost and maintain morale. I worked in a city centre cinema then progressed into the country, and pursued fish health and welfare on a number of Scottish fish farms.

My heart and soul is in writing though; i have been published twice in Blake's 7 charity annuals, various local newspapers and a Glasgow Nature journal. Which was about Squirrels.

I am in a constant battle against anxiety; it is a foe one never defeats but instead co-habits with.

please see for the production company i helped found with my younger brother, and for my blog posts.

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I am considerably eccentric and not afraid to admit or show it. You'll think i'm mad, but you'll love me for it.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

Everything I write gets my full attention; either when I'm actually putting pen to paper or even when I'm elsewhere - my mind is absorbing thoughts from the ether or creating them in my own internal engine of creativity. My work is the product of eternal, consistent consideration. Nothing is flippant, everything is important.

Why should you choose me for your project

I think i have a way with words; i feel like i understand the flow...what words go with others, and how best to put these composite parts together to make an entertaining whole. I don't write anything without the utmost commitment to the final product, whether it be the truth, the exaggerated fact, the comedic outlook, the emotional rollercoaster. I will do my very best, and I believe my best to be brilliant - but at the risk of sounding arrogant I don't tend to say that often. I'd rather my merit be judged by others. Everyone in this world is different, with their own idiosyncracies - and I love embracing this with my very being.

The Ghost Village

Uncertain yet excited, I stepped into the Favourable Engram Identifier, and vanished. Through the blurring lines and cloudy kaleidoscope of memories, I saw scenes from my childhood through to a week last Tuesday; a testament to my adventurous life. There was, however, increasing solidarity to a particular set of images; they began to coalesce and I found myself settling on one wonderful place, the best of memories for so many reasons. I was in Polphail, the ghost village. It is 2011, and I’m looking at an abandoned set of buildings and a leisure complex, ravaged by time and years of ne...

#STAYSAFE #STAYINDOORS #STAYOUTOFTHEWATER??

We’ve all seen it, and if we haven’t seen it, we’re aware of it. That’s the power of influential movies. We all remember Spielberg’s use of the dolly zoom, Roy Scheider’s look of terror and dread, and the sound of people screaming…and little Alex being pulled from his yellow lilo in a great splash of water and a cloud of red blood. And of someone shouting “shark!” “Jaws” (1975) changed our view of cinema, of movies, of storytelling. Seemingly, it didn’t influence us enough, I realised last year. What if, in the above famous scene, and with just a few tweaks to setting and cinematog...
