Biography
"All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand." - George Orwell
Such is the plight of the author, and so too my own. My name is James and for longer than I care to remember I have been trapped within the confines of my own reality. While life lumbers on in it's mundane trivialities, my mind explores realms unknown. I climbed King's dark tower, delved alongside Tolkein in the depths of Moria. I discovered magic through the eyes of Colfer and Rowling, wove the threads of fate with Robert Jordan. I rediscovered past histories with Follet, navigated current socio-political climates with Orwell and suffered prognostic visions accompanied by Nostradamus.
I have studied ancient esoteric texts, modern political articles, high fantasies and densely informative non-fictions. I have written short stories, essays, guides, articles and poetry covering every topic that I could imagine. Every interest I have ever garnered has been translated into writing, everything I have wanted to know I have read. I spent many of my schooling years attempting to cultivate the same interest in others; hosting workshops and social clubs focused on creative writing and dramatic interpretation. I have never been able to subdue my intense passion for the deeply significant art of language.
Worlds upon worlds I traversed with countless great minds and stumbled upon the realization that significance equates all.
Meaning and truth can be found in all planes of reality, from the gross physical to the ethereal mental and the human mind can travel eternally. With this truth arrived the undeniable sense of purpose that has haunted me every day since. To be a writer is to be a bridge. To connect realities that might seem impossibly distant, perspectives that refuse to coincide. Every art form worthy of the name allows for interpretation, none more so than these curves and lines, these symbols etched on paper or manifested on screen that birth landscapes, histories, thoughts and feelings in our minds and the minds of millions of others.
Writing is magic. I am a magician.

Example 1
Flashes of light, blinding and illuminating. A low moaning obscuring all other sound except a distant whining metallic screech. Pain. A searing headache. Broken memories eluding my focus. My eyes burning, a scream echoing in my mind. Darkness. Consciousness slowly began to give itself back to me, along with an intense sense of nausea. "What the fuck?" I stammered hoarsely, or at least tried to. All I could hear through the lingering fuzz was a clumsy jumble of sounds. Desperate and meaningless. My body felt numb. Unresponsive to the most innocent demands. I tried to pry my eyes open ...
Example 2 (Poor Dreams)
Fare you well, oh brother in alms? Our journey has been long The trodden path harsh Drudging on in the muck Of a world that looks past The manacles of fate That bind us to ours *** In search day and night For change so elusive A means to escape This life and it’s nooses The poverty and strife That shades fate inconclusive Half empty, fruitless *** Caged in perspective By those who preach hope Of a future that knows not What it itself holds But always what’s next is The same knotted rope That ties dreams to a close ***
Example 3
Hermeticism is one of the oldest surviving philosophies available to us today. It is deeply historic, with evidence suggesting roots that reach as far back as Ancient Egypt and perhaps even further. It is primarily based upon the teaching of the renowned Hellenistic sage Hermes Trismegistus, a persona that seems to be an amalgamation of Thoth and Hermes, deities that are found within the Egyptian and Greek pantheons respectively. The father of occultism, Hermes “The Thrice Great” Trismegistus is shrouded in mystery, having significant cultural ties within Egyptian, Greek, Jewish, Indian, an...
