Biography
Hi there!
My name is Anna and I've been writing for the most part of my life. I'm just an island girl who had big city dreams, and I'm here to help us both achieve our goals!
I'm trilingual and fluent in written and spoken English, French and a little Creole *spice*.
A little on my academic and professional background. I graduated with a BA in Journalism and Media & Communications (yeah, I didn't pick the easy route with a double major, but no regrets!) from Monash University in 2017.
I then went on to work as a full-time journalist for a primarily French publishing group, I would write articles for our two in-house women's magazines as well as our business, travel and tourism publications. I was also in charge of all translation projects that our publishing group needed. I would say that my writing adapts to my topic as needed and that I can be quite versatile when it comes to prose or copy.
Following this amazing experience, the city girl in me felt like it was time to make the move to the 6ix (Toronto).
My hobbies and interests include of, but are not limited to, the Fashion industry, literature (surprise, surprise!), languages, animals of all sizes and nature (but not bugs, terrified of bugs), art, organization (this is an actual hobby), music and food!
Writing to me is like the scent of freshly baked bread in the morning and the anticipation of that very first bite. Need I say more?
The genres that I most love writing about are investigative pieces, anything that requires research and digging. That's my jam.
A couple of books that I've read lately (and recommend!) are:
Down Girl by Kate Mann
If you've previously read Simone de Beauvoir's Le Deuxième Sexe's approach to Feminism and the biology of women, this is the ultimate read for a contemporary approach. It explores the cultural, sociological and psychological phenomenon of misogyny in modern society, our society. An absolute essential read for all, she's a brilliant writer. Side note: I queued up her next book, Entitled, to my to-read list.
The Book of Lost Things by John Conolly
This is a book I read when I was younger, but keep finding myself going back to it every year. John Conolly managed to transport me to a different realm, one that was detached from reality, yet made you understand it in a way that can only be understood through the eyes of a child. I have no idea if this book won any awards or is well-known amongst avid readers, it is simply a treasure to me.
