My name is Nex and I adore writing as it’s always been a childhood dream to bring my stories within my own imagination to life. I am now pursuing film as a full-time career at Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
Writing, reading, and creating art have always been a central part of my life since I was younger. I found myself drawn to many fictitious series such as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Maze Runner, now I like to read mystery novels like The Alienist. I have been writing practically daily since 2017 and been working on my own book series for the past few years. There is a real beauty to be able to tackle certain topics like mental health in writing where we can normalize and bring light to issues.
I think writing is the perfect way to articulate people’s own thoughts and stories. I want to help other people pursue their ideas and projects. The anonymity of writing is very freeing and showcasing topics that can’t necessarily be spoken or shown. I had the opportunity to be an author and illustrator of two books for Chartwell Books this past year. It was an amazing experience to create something for all ages that they can enjoy.

The old, rickety ceiling fan that hung above the small blue room, teetered back and forth to create a small creaking sound that slightly annoyed the half-asleep person laying in the bed below. The smell of fire and the burning ash in the town kept getting worse. A figure stood in the dark shadows of the thatched roof houses. The chants of the townsfolk only got louder and louder. The figure ran across the dark dirt road past the growing mob with their blazing torches. They moved straight into the town's square where the gallows towered above the gray, shut-down marketplace.
