Biography
“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.”— Virginia Woolf
My name is Vern Schroeder, and language is my passion. After pursuing a degree in Creative Writing, I set out to turn my passion into reality. Now, 10 years later, I still can't get enough. The only thing that's changed is that now I have some life experience.
My journey as a writer began in middle school when my first poem was published. Since then I've written innumerable poems, short stories, novels, blog posts... status updates. You mention it, I've probably written it. I bring authenticity to everything I write. I bring my insatiable curiosity for learning, and my skill at empathy, to bear every time I do a piece. I am adept at finding the necessary voice that the audience expects, and rendering the information so it grabs them.
During the last three years, my passion led me to mentor children in the art of writing. Spending time as a teacher was both rewarding and challenging. The greatest gift, to me at least, was seeing the joy of others discovering that writing could give shape to imagination. As a ghostwriter, I get to experience this gift over and over again. There is no better calling than that.

Codeswitching Across Cultures - A Case Study in Extreme Metal
Many groups of bilingual/multilingual speakers cross regional and ethnic boundaries, especially since the rise of international media and the internet. One such group, which we will examine in this paper, is the “Extreme Metal” subculture. There are two main reasons why this subculture is of interest to the study of linguistics. Firstly, it defies both the regional and ethnic boundaries conceived in demarcating dialect as an object. Secondly, while originating in Scandinavia (Norway and Sweden specifically) its discourse is mainly in English, further obscuring regional considerations. ***...
ManUNkind Act 1: Word to Flesh
ManUNkind Act 1: Word to Flesh With Word all things came you say with words yourself. Word Magick. a pale fabric stitched to life with sound. We had sound. The hum of the drums grumbled us together with the whoosh of wind, and the roots of blood remembering when we learned to sing in the Whirling Before the Word. For once all was chaotic stillness and from there we moved to dance apart but all agree in sacred rhythm to the truth of telling, in turns. The sun torn as exit, as the leaving Umvelingangi attests to us as to whether the mighty ineffable may b...
Under the Moon
It felt as if the ground I stood on was shaking. My very foundation was breaking away, and the abyss beneath was threatening to swallow me whole. My wife had revealed that she doesn’t love me anymore, I lost my job, and a mistake with my contact lenses now left blindness on the table. She was my everything, my reason for living. Without her life seemed pointless. As I listened to the reasons she gave, trying desperately to see her face through the cloudy film, my mind was racing with rebuttals. Yet, I couldn’t offer a single one. Everything she said was true. I was ashamed. Things wer...
