BSocSci: Psychology & Criminology. A voracious reader, dedicated writer, eclectic poetess, and proud cat & plant lady.

Biography

Hello! I'm Rosemary, a writer and poet from South Africa with a BSocSci degree in Psychology and Criminology. I enjoy writing anything from creative prose to factual, non-fictional pieces.

I obtained my Bachelor's of Social Science in 2021, majoring in Criminology and Psychology. My minor was Sociology and my elective was Communication Science. I have also completed a semester of Anthropology. Back in high school, I was also able to achieve my Goethe-Zertifikat B1 for German, which is my third language. These have all been invaluable to my writing, bolstering my research skills and giving me a deeper insight into how to properly write about people.

Writing aside, I have tons of other hobbies and I am always looking to learn something new. I, naturally, enjoy reading with some of my favorite genres being fantasy and poetry. Gardening is something else I love, and I greatly enjoy any creative crafts such as making resin objects and drying flowers. With my background in criminology, I also like to watch true crime documentaries.

I am deeply passionate about animal welfare and have fostered cats. I also have previous experience with dogs, snakes, ducks, chickens, hedgehogs, and parrots. I grew up in a home where a deep love and respect for nature was cultivated by my mother.

I used to work in a bookstore and it was amazing in terms of exposure to new materials. This helps a lot when it comes to my research seeing as I can nab source materials fairly easily, and it helps a lot with knowing what type of writing is already out there and what the people want more of.

Interests and hobbies

Writing aside, I am also an incurable bookworm. Most of the books I read are fantasy, but if it's a book, chances are pretty good that I'll read it. I always love learning something new.
I enjoy almost any creative craft, with resin and flower drying being the biggest ones I partake in day-to-day when I'm not scribbling or typing away.
I am also very big on gardening and animal welfare.
My interests are vast and very eclectic, expanding almost every day as I learn new things. To name just a quick few: floriography, psychology, criminology, mythology, art, witchcraft, children's literature, manga and anime, music, video games, nature, and animals.

How I'd describe my personality in two sentences

I tend to be shy but passionate, secretly funny though I do have a bit of a dark sense of humor which comes as a shock to many. A humanitarian by nature and someone who's been told again and again that I have too soft a heart, which I keep soft by choice.

How I'd describe my approach to my work

I am very dedicated to my research and writing. Researching is probably the most important part of the process which takes up most of my time; the writing part is "easy", I've been channeling thought to paper for years and years already. I am also very fond of keeping open a clear channel of communication; it's important to me to keep my clients in the loop as I go about my way completing orders.

Why should you choose me for your project

I am friendly, passionate, dedicated, and very tuned into what my clients want from their orders. I am responsive to messages and online every day. You can rest assured that I'll keep you informed of my process and that I'll do my best to ensure the best end product possible. Pop me a message if you'd like a chat!

Rosemary (Salvia Rosmarinus)

This evergreen shrub is a well-rounded, beginner-friendly herb. Rosemary is a kitchen staple for many and even has its fair share of healing properties. It is an attractive plant and easy to care for. The needle-like leaves and small flowers are a welcome companion to any garden, and since it is part of the mint family you can always bet on its fresh scent to attract all sorts of attention. Rosemary is described as having a fresh pine-like scent. It is drought-resistant and needs no formative training or pruning, so you can pop it in a sunny area and just water it when the topsoil around...

The Language of Flowers

A Brief History In the Victorian era of England, the language of flowers rose to popularity as a means to communicate in secret. Floriography, as it is called, would draw meanings from various sources such as mythology, literature, and even the appearance of the flowers and plants, with some florists assigning their own preferred definitions to the blooms they sold. This secret language was popular amongst friends and lovers alike, some sources even stating that ladies used floriography to communicate in a way their guards would remain ignorant to the messages being passed by way of the ...

Easy Grounding Exercises: The 5-4-3-2-1 Technique

Grounding is a self-soothing technique that is commonly used by people with anxiety, or anyone who might feel overwhelmed for whatever reason, to calm down and come back to the present here-and-now. It is almost like a quick meditation practice. One of the popular grounding exercises used is the 5-4-3-2-1 technique which utilizes your five senses. Firstly, if you can, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Once you’re ready to begin, open your eyes and name five things you can see. It can be anything that catches your eye, like a pen, a computer mouse, a spot on the ceiling, or wh...

Grounding Techniques for Teenagers

Grounding is a great technique when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Stressed for a test? Angry at someone who hurt you? This self-soothing exercise (think babies in a crib but, well, your thoughts are the crib and the baby is your brain) will help a lot for those moments when your stomach drops and you feel your emotions starting to clog up in your chest. This goes beyond the usual “just breathes” and all of the “count to tens” and those classic “just calm downs”. This will actually help you get to those places, like a treasure map with directions, instead of just a lousy X scrawled somewhere a...

ii. nobody hears you scream

silence is a knife you drag against your throat with your own trembling hands and you hide the blood stains in the lines of your palms, lace your fingers and smile at your friends through the glass over your eyes, through the salt lining your teeth again // static- there's a hollow thrum in the center of your chest, it curls down your spine and branches off to your arms, a numbness you pray to lose but it's always back when you wake up in the morning, a metal coat of pain

ix. treasure hunt

it’s one of those nights again where the blade walks the length of your arm, the fading feeling of his fingertips against your skin mimicking the lines on a treasure map “x marks the spot” stop at your left wrist and dig into your pulse // death brushes his lips against my throat, teeth grazing my jugular as if signing a contract he wouldn’t make a promise he can’t keep, and you know it // snap the bones of my sternum just like clipping the wings of a wounded bird // i won’t lie to you, it’ll only hurt a lot

vi. the hour of dust and salt

the oversweet tea dissolves in my mouth and i choke on the big hand of the clock, watching the passing of roman numerals against my closed eyelids with trembling hands knotted in my hair it's the hour of dust and salt, the flimsy wings of a white moth beating against the window with every skip in my pulse it's a sacred kind of sadness, breaths like prayers against your bruised knees
