Biography
"My imagination is my polestar; I steer by that."- Clive Barker
Hello! My name is Jay, and I've been writing since I was eight years old. Yes, you read that right. I'm practically a lifer.
When I was a kid, I was a voracious consumer of everything storytelling. It started with a paperback that had a cover that was as scary as it was enticing about a child-eating clown. That evolved into an interest in mythology, from Ancient Egypt to the Navajo. Eventually, my boundless appetite ventured out into more unconventional storytelling methods like film, video games, and the news.
One day, bored in English class, I started writing short stories involving all my little buddies in various outlandish situations. At only eight, there were some serious flaws in the first stories I penned. But what I remember above all else were the positive reactions, not only from my friends and family but also from teachers. That was when I knew and had confirmation that I had a gift, a talent.
Fast forward almost three decades, and I turned that innate talent and passion into a career as a freelance writer. However, there wasn't a straight line from my childhood writings to writing as an occupation.
Writing may have been my first and truest, but it has never been my only love. I've invested serious time into history, to me, the ultimate story. An obsession with film led to a Bachelor's Degree in Video Production from The Art Institute of Philadelphia. And I've traveled to almost every continent on Earth, devouring stories from different and varied cultures.
Armed with a cornucopia of knowledge and experience, I switched my focus back to writing. Five years ago, I dedicated myself solely to life as a freelance ghostwriter. I've written close to a hundred projects for clients in that short span, from novellas to instruction manuals. I've done it all in fiction, non-fiction, self-help guides, how-to books, and even research papers. And I've enjoyed every second of it.
Over time, my writing style has evolved into something truly unique. I stand by the belief that my style, more conducive to grabbing a reader's attention and taking them on a ride they don't want to get off of, makes me a one-of-a-kind writer. Films have had such a significant influence on me that dialogue and pacing are as crucial in my work as anything else.
A strong understanding of world history and a wealth of diverse job experience bring an educated perspective on most non-fiction projects, even before the methodical research begins. In many ways, I treat these works as I do fiction. These are still stories, albeit not traditional three-act tales, but they share a sense of progression and the need to ensnare a reader's attention. Pacing still matters, even in this genre.
For me, writing is more than just a job. It takes me back to being a kid again. Each project feels like a younger version of me was set loose on a sandbox full of an infinite number of toys. I take those toys, using experience and talent, bring them together to create something new, superior to the parts as a whole.
These are some of the non-fiction genres I've worked in and excelled at:
- History
- SEO Article Writing
- Copywriting
- Self Help
- How-to-Guides
- Biographies
- Health and Fitness
- The Occult
- News and Current Events
- Instructional
- Pet and Animal Care
- Medical
My true passion lies in fiction. Here are some of the genres I've written and excelled at:
- Horror
- Science Fiction
- Fantasy
- Dark Fantasy
- Thrillers
- Mystery
- Romance
- Paranormal Romance
- Historical Fiction
- Erotica
- Young Adult
- Film
- Comic Books
One day I hope for it to be my book, with a creepy cover that entices and ignites a passion for writing in someone. Until then, I will fully dedicate myself to delivering quickly written projects without ever sacrificing an ounce of creativity or quality. Because everything I write is more than work, it's a piece of myself that I enthusiastically share with clients and their readers.

Blood & Soul (Work in Progress)
Preston Fitzgerald failed. What made the sting worse was that his failure meant that his father failed too. And his father before him. All the money and influence in the world couldn't buy him what he needed above all else to succeed, knowledge. Stewing in his defeat, the young heir to the Fitzgerald fortune sat alone in his family's cavernous dining room. The storm knocked out the power hours ago, so his brooding took place in the dark. His only company consisted of a candle, a glass, a bottle of whiskey, and the constant questioning of everything he did. Where did he go wrong? The ...
SOMEONE STARED BACK
Deanna awoke in her dark bedroom, still sick. That made it five days. And each day, her symptoms got worse. It started at work on Sunday. Deanna waited tables at a restaurant in Center City called Pescanos. She thought it was nothing more than a simple cold, or maybe she didn't get enough sleep. As a borderline insomniac, that wasn't out of the ordinary for her. Then the dizziness and sweating reared their ugly heads. Halfway into her shift, Deanna was on the verge of passing out. Her boss insisted that she not only leave but go to the hospital. Uninsured, she decided to wait it ou...
